Now watching: Rogue One : Andor Cut (Fan Edit)

now rewatching

it would be really interesting if private angel is actually a good person and a lesbian in love with a black woman like the complete opposite of stormfront and they hate each other because clara can’t accept that someone she sees as “genetically perfect” would not be like her

I guess this shot from Andor is supposed to be a metaphor for the oppressive blade of patriarchy cutting a woman off from her loving, progressive mother, and giving her over to the domination of a strange man, in the antiquated custom known as "traditional marriage." A beautiful message, to be sure. It really makes you think. But at the same time, I think it's a little inappropriate for a teenage actress to be baring her neck like that in a knife play scene. For Christ's sake, Tony Gilroy, this isn't the 70s anymore. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, I guess. Anyway, as usual, I think this shot from Attack of the Clones is better. We start with Padme accepting Anakin's robotic hand in marriage, which can be taken as either moving or unsettling, creating some very interesting Romantic--or Gothic--overtones. We then pan up to see the light of the setting sun glowing through Padme's bridal veil and playing on the braids hanging down over her breast. Finally we come to rest on the faces of the lovers, moving in closer and closer for the kiss as the sunlight continues to create a halo-like glow around them. I think this is a much richer and more beautiful depiction of the power and danger of marriage--powerful because love is powerful; dangerous because you are making a solemn decision to commit yourself to someone fully, with all their flaws and weaknesses.

Why are smash fans allergic to having cool characters in the game
