Banksy didn’t just blind the man with the flag. He gave him the confidence to stride anyway. This isn’t the usual 'patriotism makes you stupid' jab everyone keeps repeating. Look at the suit, the plinth, the imperial corridor of Waterloo Place... this is the modern power suit, the bureaucrat, CEO, politician, stepping off the very pedestal society built for him. The flag doesn’t slow him. It gives him momentum he never questions. Banksy’s point is quieter: we don’t fall because we’re blind. We fall because we’ve convinced ourselves the flag is our eyes. Every empire, every movement, every 'greater cause' started exactly like this with faceless momentum. The sculpture isn’t mocking the marcher. It’s mourning the moment he mistook the wind for wisdom.

Julian Casablancas of The Strokes and Regina Spektor were friends (and at points speculated to be romantically involved) for decades, having come up in the same NYC music scene, touring together, and with Casablancas reportedly playing a key role in Spektor landing her first major record deal. They performed with one another on stage as recently as August 2023. In February 2024 Julian Casablancas posted this message to his Instagram: "US Airmen Aaron Bushnell set himself on fire outside the Israeli embassy in Washington D.C. yesterday." "His last words echoed through the smoke and pain: 'I will no longer be complicit in genocide.'" Regina Spektor quickly unfollowed Casablancas on all social media. 🥴🤡

Regina Spektor stopped her show mid-performance to have an audience member removed for shouting "free Palestine". Another audience member calls out "you can say it, free free Palestine!" Spektor says "I thought this was different than the internet, this is real life!" as they are also removed. A third audience member, meekly: "But there is a genocide happening..." RS: "You can leave the show if you want, this is not an internet comment section." "We're watching children dying..." RS: "Yeah, I think you should go, this is not the place for that. Several more people walk out. RS: "I'm being othered here, and it sucks." 🙄

Believe it or not, this is how soccer works in Italy. Fiorentina was relegated to the third/fourth league but promote back to the second or first league due to “historical” merits.
