A lot of our parents stopped us from finding ourselves. Some of them wanted to live through us.

What people don't realise is that wealth hoarding isn’t even in our “human nature." It’s a relatively new concept. For most of human history, we lived in small hunter-gatherer groups where survival depended on sharing. If someone tried to hoard or act above others, the group shut it down through ridicule, exclusion, or death. Equality wasn’t ideology, it was survival. That's a lesson we should learn from.

The difference between a thriving economy and a failing one is not resources or geography.  It's whether the government trusts its own people enough to let them work.

If Nigeria was a better country, most people would have nothing to do with the music industry except to just listen to music and live life.

I was in a queue at a POS stand in Lagos when a little boy, maybe 10 years old, walked up. He handed the agent ₦500 and said, “Aunty, help me send it to my mummy.” The agent asked, “Where is your mummy dey?” He replied, “Hospital.” Everyone went quiet. She asked again, “Why did you not go with her?” The boy looked down and said, “The doctor said they won’t touch her until we bring money.” Nobody spoke for a few seconds. Then the woman behind me stepped forward and said, “How much do they need?” Before you knew it, strangers started contributing. That day, I realised something: In Nigeria, people are struggling, but they still show up for one another.

It’s disgusting behavior to look down on people, then suddenly change when you find out they have money.

Intelligent people struggle with addiction. Their minds need more. They have obsessions nobody around them shares. Philosophy. Astronomy. Dostoevsky. Jazz. Quantum physics. Things they know deeply. Things they've gone so deep into that anything else feel like small talk. And small talk feels like suffocation. So... they drink. Work until 2 am. Doomscroll until they're numb. Because there is a gap. A gap between who you are and the conversations available to you. And it's one of the loneliest places a person can live.

Writing gets easier when you stop trying to sound impressive. Most days I’m just trying to say one honest thing clearly. Turns out that’s enough.

Another good news fam. Waking up to acceptance mails is one the greatest and surreal feeling as both poet and a writer. 😊
