Teachers: relax. You don't need to fear inclusion. No-one's calling for the end of behaviour rules. No-one's calling for anarchy. Neither of those things will happen. Most schools are already inclusive. But some need to change. And the culture needs to evolve. Here's why. 🧵

One school year working as SLT in SEND for the LA. Strange not to have the full holiday but only working 11 days in total across the weeks - still less time than I would have spent on planning etc as a teacher. Celebrating the end of Y7 for J - its been challenging.

What have I learnt in the 9 weeks since I left my full time teaching position? It is far harder to leave teaching than it is to get into teaching. So many jobs applied for and every single one a rejection 🤷‍♀️

Inclusion has been punished by the accountability system for as long as I’ve known it. Fact. The most anti-inclusion practices have been ignored by LAs, Ofsted, RSC, DfE etc for years even when clear evidence has been given

A big week for us. J started Y7 in a special school, has done brilliantly, got on transport without a backwards glance & sat at the back (!), & I started my LA job as, Service Lead- full on but absolutely loving it so far & feel valued already.
