@railair @gerryleonidas Thank you, I will indeed request a refund if required. In the meantime, if I may, I urge you to revise your new website to provide clear and complete information about the "flexi-book" add-on.

@railair @gerryleonidas AFAIK, your new website says nothing about this accommodation of late arrivals, nor that the "flexi-book" add-on is the means to enable this accommodation of a late arrival on the day booked. Unaware of this, I purchased return tickets without the add-on.

Newly added to our collection: 3 sets of stencils — 2 complete uppercase zinc sets with numerals (ca. 1880–1960) and one near-complete brass set (ca. 1786)!

I'll be honest, I had no idea stenciled liturgical manuscripts were a thing until this came in the mail. Still didn't believe it was stenciled until a few friends explained it to me.

Dr. Jill E Gage @jillegage.bsky.social
How amazing are these advertisements/annuals from Nicolas (1929-36)? We have a bunch of these and I'm always blown away by how high-end the printing is. They are also a reminder that I should probably break out my 1899 Chateau Margaux ;-) #NewberryLibrary

@fpeulrich @Mikeashworth12 @UniRdg_Typo The article by Nicholas Drew (i.e. Robert Harling) on ‘Stencilled letter-forms’ may be the earliest such English-language survey, predating R. S. Hutchings (‘Stencil types’, 1958). Harling’s likely involvement in SB’s ‘Tea-Chest’ connects nicely with the Alphabet and Image cover.

@adamob82 Learning from Las Vegas (Venturi, Scott Brown, Izenour, 1972) is the usual place to start. Signs: lettering in the environment (Baines and Dixon, 2003) is also valuable and has a concise bibliography. Much else thereafter!

@ampersanden Yes, superb sample book from Chevalier et Cie, c. 1860s. Answers many questions and raises many more. First learned of this from the intrepid @panefarre. As always, thanks to @BibParis for their digitisation.

@opto Yes, I remember it well (I think it was just after Lisbon), and your kind gift of 'iconography', for which I have been grateful ever since. The book plays an important role in the article of 2013 hyphenpress.co.uk/products/books…. @FredSmeijers cut the stencils for us to recreate p. 87.
