Trying to implement a recursive structure in @rustlang... Been fighting with the borrow checker for 2 days when it's time to populate. It's time to go read some code and also the rust book about smart pointers.

The concepts of ownership, borrowing and lifetimes are where the learning curve is starting to get steeper for me with my "VM languages" background. Writing some simple functions is a challenge right now. But I guess that's the price to pay to avoid a GC plus memory safety 😀

8 days late but finally started the advent of code. My excuse to test @JetBrains_Fleet and learn @rustlang, at last. Amazed by how quickly the former sets itself up on the flight. And still wrapping my head around the Rust’s syntax but I enjoy it so far!

@jpetazzo Awesome post. I did some of those in a project 😅 and this provides a great opportunity to do better. Thanks for the tips and useful links btw.

@1anre @intensivedata Yes, issues dealing with data in DS. Honestly it is a vast subject and there is no book I read I can recommend. However I read oreilly.com/library/view/s… that sum up well some common distributed architectures and also samnewman.io/books/building… if you want to focus on micro services.

Currently reading @intensivedata and this book is just the awesomest I read lately. It may be broad but it gives you enough details when needed and is highly readable. Can't recommend it enough! Kudos to the author, this is truly great work.

@1anre @intensivedata Honestly you will learn a lot about distributed systems even if it is not explicitly mentioned.

@1anre @intensivedata There are lot of problems (concurrency, network and other failures) and patterns usable in most distributed systems as they more often than not deal with data. Interesting subjects so far: backward & forward compatibility in data exchange, how a node handles recovery, etc.

@1anre @intensivedata On page 204 about partitioning right now. I like to read slowly especially rich books like this one, take some notes and create some tasks related to the reading (like drawing step by step some of the algorithms). I plan to finish next month 😅, hopefully.

@k33g_org @nuzzel @SReuiller Great article but it also misses key points. If your audience is distributed the speed advantage definitely impacts as there are higher chances that the CDN is closer. For exemple for content served from France and consumed in Australia...

@k33g_org @nuzzel @SReuiller Also the content served by the CDN is not served from your infrasctruture impacting the billing and the pressure on your servers. And for the security part I am not sure that lot of individuals or small organizations leveraging CDNs have the structure that would enable them...
