@barbalink @anne_marie_bio I used a metal meter stick to measure depth at lynx locations. Would take 4 measures per site. Also measured hardness by dropping a pop can filled with rice from a set height above the snow and measuring the depth it sunk. We called it our highly scientific densiometer. haha

For @hakaimagazine, I wrote about beach dogs, which are both shockingly harmful to coastal ecosystems *and* a wildly contentious political issue. Note: I am not w/out sin when it comes to letting my little killer roam free! Let the angry emails commence. hakaimagazine.com/features/gone-…

Recent visitors to #BIOL4410 included inspiring speakers Dr. Emily Studd & Rachael Derbyshire who shared their work on Lynx & Hares in Kluane, YT, and the venerable naturalist & photographer extraordinaire @MichaelRuntz who also led us in a convincing group wolf howl ⬇️

@GM_TweeterBird Oh that's really interesting. I was thinking the higher temperatures would be when the squirrel was out foraging in the sun, and coldest temperatures when the animal was in a den or shade. However, I found easily see it reversed as you suggest! This gives me some great ideas. TY!

So cool how the iButton data clearly shows when this squirrel died and when I recovered the collar. Perhaps a thermal ecologist can help me interpret the "alive time" data...

Check out our new paper in @ESAEcology examining how food availability and long-term predation risk affect snowshoe hare's antipredator response to lynx encounter. Collaborative work with @ekstudd @MJLPeers @YMajchrzak @boutinlab @akmenzies @RDerbyshire7 @MurrayLab_Trent

Check out this awesome interview/video by @akmenzies about our use of technology to study lynx. This paper has been my favourite experience in science so far. A team effort from start (co-first author) to finish (sharing media). @MethodsEcolEvol @RDerbyshire7
