MISTS OF PANDARIA BETA ARENA UPDATE: We have gone back and forth on what Dampening should look like, so we've decided for the Beta - we're going to let YOU decide. In your own matches, game to game, blind as to what the other team selects. - The longest a match can go is now 20 minutes (up from 15 minutes). - Dampening Starts a 5 minutes in all brackets. - Every Arena starting area now has a Bloodbath Orb that requires at least 2 players on the team to channel to activate. - Activating the Bloodbath Orb casts your vote for earlier dampening in the match. - If no teams activate their Bloodbath Orb, when the gates open an announcement will describe the match as being slower, and dampening will start at 5 minutes, and will start at 0%. - If one team activates their Bloodbath Orb, and the other does not, when the gates open an announcement will describe the match as having a warmup period, and dampening will start at 3 minutes, and will start at 0%. - If both teams activate their Bloodbath Orb, when the gates open an announcement will describe the match as a Bloodbath, and dampening will start immediately at 0%. - Bloodbath Orbs require 2 seconds of channeling from at least 2 players on a team to activate. - The range on being able to channel these orbs is a little small on purpose to prevent misclicks. - This will allow players to always vote for the type of game they want to play against their enemies, while only knowing the specs of their opponents, and also not knowing how the other team is going to vote. Here is what is happening on the MoP Beta regarding PvP. The PvP Season ended on the Beta. Q: Why? A: It is the only opportunity we have to test the FlatCutOff tech/logic and make sure it works before a live season. Q: Why two days? A: We are simulating our risk team combing through accounts that earn titles to eliminate cheaters from reward contention. This is for workflow, and seeing what a season's minimum lift required is with the FlarCutOffs we have. Q: Will the season be back on Beta afterwards? A: We will attempt to revert the season back to the start on Beta and have it begin again. This is not a promise it will work perfectly, but we will be attempting to do it so we can allow players to continue giving feedback on how Arenas feel, how dampening feels, and the variants of it. Q: Are you going to change dampening again? A: Yes. We are going to experiment with 5 minute dampening starts in every bracket and starting at 0% dampening. Q: But why? No one likes slow games! Especially Healer vs. Healer 2s! A: We know, this is why we introduced the dampening we did, but we've gotten enough feedback it would be amiss not to entertain the desire for a longer meta even if just for the moment. Q: But it sucks, we know it's going to suck, why? A: It is a public beta environment. If we do not explore and iterate options as fast as possible and actually stay flexible, then we are not serving the players to the best of our ability. Experience a weird week of dampening on the beta, or a whole season of offputting dampening? The former decreases the chance of the latter. Bonus A: I personally believe the best version of dampening will be: - 2s starts at 3-5 minutes - Healer mirror 2s starting at 0-3 minutes. - 3s and 5s starting at 3-5 minutes. - Dampening starting from 0-10%. And I believe it enough that doing things that may not align with that is fine with me during the beta because I have confidence I'm correct enough that others will see it too once we go with the longer dampening test, or I will be wrong and learn something new.
