Tinubu is trying to be very careful by allowing Governors to anoint their successors especially in the north where he knows he is largely unpopular. He depends on Governors to work for him and wouldn’t risk any contretemps. Sadly, problems will still come up. It is ineluctable.

Kwankwaso could be anything but, like or hate him, he isn’t a hater of the north. When some innocent northern traders were arrested by the military in Abia in 2014, Kwankwaso, then as Governor of Kano, sent a powerful delegation from Kano to Abia in order to secure their release.
