@BlackQazz @ArcticIke You strive for excellence in all that you do. Meanwhile we are reminded of what others are doing and are also spurred to action.
English

@ArcticIke @elainevanepps Incorrect: We Japanese have outsmarted the Americans
Correct: We Japanese are just crazy about their passion and pride when it comes to food.
English

Fellow Americans,
The Japanese are making delicious soups (imoni, taro root with meat) with specialized excavators. Why aren't we innovating on giant chilis and chowders via this method? This should be at some state fair or a food eating competition.

English

@AonoGensou Launching ANYTHING into the sky is our passion.
English

"I can see a future where if Americans did it, it wouldn’t be a food-eating contest but a food fight."
We would do both. We could fire missiles of jambalaya in the air to see how big of a splatter zone we could create, and then use giant water guns to see how fast we can clean it all up.

@u4_1201 If you come to Florida, visit a Publix supermarket and try their sweet tea!

@MichaelFKane They have ninjas with specific roles of being seen by tourists so the tourists can feel extra clever. You can see them in Mie Prefecture in Iga Ueno. Well worth the day trip.
English

How would one KNOW there are no ninjas in Japan given how sneaky there are...? 🤔
M.takewaka@m_takewaka

@Locus_Solus3303 "skosh", from 少し/sukoshi, is also a relatively recent loanword into English. Per Merriam-Webster (a popular dictionary), it came over circa 1952, but I never heard it used until this century. I did a major doubletake when I heard it in a US commercial 20 years ago.
English

@girlmeetsNG Americans would be more impressed by this if you used imperial measurements (miles/hr). We don't understand km/hr and we're too lazy to do the conversion.
(I mean, I would convert it. It's roughly 370 mi/hr. But we as a people wouldn't.)
English

@LaughlessVR I nominate my husband's chili as tribute. It is meat-based and already the winner of two separate church chili cookoffs. He'd have a lot of fun tweaking the recipe to make sure everything tastes just right.
English

@elainevanepps Clearly we need to challenge Japan to a chili cook off. We have grown complacent and need proper competition to wake us up.
English

@karukozakaxxx If it gets too popular this fall, maybe Yamagata Prefecture would prefer we think it's in Miyagi by mistake.
English

This heavy machinery is brand new, and I’ve already lubricated the moving parts with butter and cooking oil. I plan to use this shiny new machine to make imoni soup.
Please note that this exciting festival is held in Yamagata Prefecture, not Miyagi Prefecture.

@ZQQuKJ2hdh34349 Nebraska is farm country - famous for corn in particular, but they do a lot of beef production as well.

@kiss2kill3 I thank the engineers who designed and perfected these backhoes.

@maxim_r2x This is the one time I want a local politician to do something ridiculous with my tax money, even if it is to seed a crowdsourced fund for it.
English

@TenzanB Bless Yamagata for coming up with it! This feels like it should be older than 1989!

@miso_tanuki_ I have long admired the Japanese industrial hygiene standards for cooking. We're only not slapdash with our standards due to fear of getting sued for food poisoning or allergen contamination.
English

Relic

@agult I appreciate how the excavators are made with this festival in mind first, and then repurposed in a thoughtful manner for future tasks.
