It’s sad that during your formative years, your exposure to the world is largely limited by your parent’s own exposure. If they value things like music lessons, spelling bees, sports, or exploring random hobbies, you benefit from that. If not, it’s just chores and TV for you.

I’ve been having a lot of conversations locally in Chicago and asynchronously about how “city moms” are a very very important housing consistency whose needs are not being represented by major housing groups
Many of the most visible pro-housing and YIMBY-adjacent groups skew towards childless men, and the focus tends to be on maximizing unit counts rather than delivering housing that works for families over the long term.
(They claim that increasing unit counts will lead to broader affordability but I haven’t seen any evidence that flooding a city with studios brings down cost of 4BDs with yard access)
New development tends to be either low density sprawl or megaprojects. Neither reliably delivers what many households need: a family-sized home, embedded in a walkable neighborhood, with usable yard

I think this kind of parenting ‘aesthetic’ is much more appealing and aspirational than the tradwife sourdough sack dress homeschool 21st century does 19th century vibe pushed by Twitter pronatalists.
