🎨 ✨ We are proud to recognize @MaxwellBauman as the 3rd Place recipient of the Mark Podwal Prize in Visual Art. As he explains about his LEGO™️ art piece Emergency Golem: “In the 16th century, Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel created a golem to defend the Jewish ghetto from the pogroms. Once, the Rabbi forgot to deactivate the golem before the sabbath and it went on a violent rampage. The golem was destroyed, and the remains stored in the attic of the Old New Synagogue, where it could be restored if needed. Golems can be made from any raw material. My piece was built with LEGO™️ bricks. It expands on that tradition of having a protector ready when the Jewish people need to defend themselves. This tiny figure is certainly easy enough to destroy and rebuild if / when it goes berserk.” 🗓️ The winning works, together with pieces from Mark Podwal’s private collection, will be exhibited for the public at Hebrew Union College , NYC, from April 17 to June 25, 2026. @huc1875 #MarkPodwalPrize #MaxwellBauman #EmergencyGolem #JewishArt #ContemporaryArt #ArtExhibition #ElieWiesel #HellerMuseum

🎭✨ Purim Sameach! ✨🎭 Purim commemorates the story of Queen Esther, whose courage helped save the Jewish people from destruction. It is a joyous holiday marked by reading the Megillah, sharing gifts of food, giving to those in need, and celebrating together in community. As we retell this story of resilience and unity, may we be reminded of the power of courage, generosity, and standing together. May this Purim bring joy, connection, and celebration to you and your loved ones. #HappyPurim #Purim #JewishHoliday #Community #Generosity #JewishTradition #Unity #ElieWieselFoundation

✨ Our students at the Beit Tzipora centers in Israel celebrated Purim together last week with joy, costumes, and laughter. In moments like these, we are reminded of the strength of community and the resilience of our children. As difficult days continue, with security threats and attacks impacting communities across Israel, we pray for their safety and well-being. May they be protected, and may brighter, peaceful days come soon. 💙 #Purim #PurimJoy #BeitTzipora #Israel #JewishCommunity #Education #Community #Resilience #ElieWieselFoundation

Spanning five continents, this powerful coalition will support targeted, lifesaving advocacy to prevent mass atrocities and defend human rights worldwide. “At a time of global crisis, their willingness to stand with frontline defenders elevates our mission and helps protect those who need it most. 🎨 ✨ We are proud to recognize Joshua Meyer as an Honorable Mention recipient of the Mark Podwal Prize in Visual Art. As he says: “This sprawling, eight-panel painting is full of overlapping stories, collapsing the past, present and future into a single artwork. It is about relationships, the ways we change, and the ways we change each other. Mark Podwal and Elie Wiesel’s relationship—and the way they enhanced each other—seems like the perfect embodiment of what my paintings are exploring. This is about the way we change and the way we encounter art and each other.” 🗓️ The winning works, together with pieces from Podwal’s private collection, will be exhibited for the public at Hebrew Union College from April 17 to June 25, 2026. #MarkPodwalPrize #JoshuaMeyer #ContemporaryArt #JewishArt #ElieWiesel #ArtExhibition

On World Day of Social Justice, we reaffirm that human dignity is universal and cannot be denied. “You who are so-called ‘illegal aliens’ must know that no human being is illegal. That is a contradiction in terms. Human beings can be beautiful or more beautiful, can be right or wrong, but illegal? How can a human being be illegal?” — The Refugee, 1984, Elie Wiesel #WorldDayOfSocialJustice #HumanDignity #HumanRights #NoHumanIsIllegal #TheRefugee #ElieWiesel #ElieWieselFoundation

Thank you to everyone who submitted work for the Mark Podwal Prize in Visual Art. With more than 300 applications received, we were deeply moved by the range, depth, and creativity of the submissions. So many inspiring works made the jury’s deliberations especially challenging. With the winners now announced, we regret that we are unable to provide individual feedback. Calls and emails requesting feedback will not be answered. We are grateful to all who shared their art with us and helped make this year’s prize so meaningful. #MarkPodwalPrize #WinnersAnnouncement #VisualArt #JewishArt #JewishIdentity #ArtExhibition #ElieWieselFoundation
