The biggest wealth destroyer in the UK right now is PCP car finance.
People on a £32k salary will happily lock themselves into a £500/month contract for a Mercedes they will never actually own, just to sit in gridlocked traffic on the M25 and try to impress people in the lane next to them.
Then they get to the office and complain that taxes are too high and the government is holding the working class down.
If you put that £500 a month into an S&P 500 ISA instead of a rented German car, you'd be a millionaire by retirement. Stop blaming the Prime Minister for your own terrible capital allocation.
Your car isn't an asset. It's an anchor.

April 2001, UEFA Cup semifinal 2nd leg at Anfield and the Redmen have just dumped the mighty Barcelona out with the help of a well taken Gary Macca penalty.
Barcelona with the likes of Pepe Reina, Rivaldo, Reiziger, De Boer, Kluivert, Petit, Puyol, Overmars etc on display thought they just had to turn up to book their place in the final to the point of cocky, but they hadn't allowed for the Spion Kop effect, which was at it magnificent, best that night.
So at full time, a raw 20yr old Gerrard made his not so succinct point by baiting the crestfallen Barcelona Skipper Josep (Pep) Guardiola as he trudged dejectedly off the Anfield turf.

This man destroyed a $1 million car on PURPOSE
Andy House bought a Bugatti Veyron for $1 million and insured it for $2.2 million
A few days later he drove it straight into the ocean near Texas
Left the engine running so saltwater would destroy every part of it
A random driver happened to be filming because he'd never seen a Bugatti in person
The video shows him driving straight into the water
No swerving, no braking, nothing
His excuse: a "low flying pelican" scared him but there wasn't a single pelican in sight
The video hit YouTube with over 5 million views
Investigators watched it and charged him with insurance fraud
He tried to turn a $1 million car into a $2.2 million check and the only reason he failed is because someone never saw a Bugatti in his life

One of the best ever racing games of the golden era - if not the best one: Out Run by Sega will celebrate its 40th birthday this year.
In 1986, this game introduced not just one but several new features.
It was the first arcade cabinet with a steering wheel featuring force feedback to mimic road surfaces, plus pedals and a gear shift. For a little kid, this was beyond epic.
It was also the first to let players choose from three synth-pop tracks (Magical Sound Shower, Passing Breeze, and Splash Wave) via an in-game radio to personalize the vibe.
It simulated real Ferrari Testarossa traits (horsepower, torque, and gears) and allowed skillful drifting - or bad drifting, in my case.
Another cool fetaure (a "choose your own adventure" if you will) was the forked road (left/right) at certain intervals, giving the player a choice and making it more "interactive".
It's no surprise that this legends ultimately became Sega's top-selling arcade game in 1987 and is still talked about today, in its 40th year.
