Children's Healthcare Crisis CHI board told of investigations into cases of 13 children who came to harm in hospitals - ✍️Maeve Sheehan Some of the reviews had been going on for a “wholly unacceptable” three years, the board of the hospital group was told. Lucy Nugent, CHI’s chief executive, told the board that the number of historical reviews into Category 1 incidents still under review was “wholly unacceptable”. A statutory inquiry will be held into the care of children with complex scoliosis and spina bifida, while an external review of the clinical care given to children is under way. The children were the victims of Category 1 incidents — classified as “major” or “extreme” incidents that can cause disability, incapacity or death. The board minutes record that although extra clinics were held to improve the rate of spinal surgery, only 4.5pc of children who attended were actually referred for surgery. Claire Cahill, [@ClarCahill] of the Scoliosis Advocacy Network and [@scolionetwork] the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Paediatric Advocacy Group, [@SBH_PAG] said there has been no “meaningful” reduction in the backlog of children waiting for spinal surgery. #PublicInquiryCHi #CHI #LucyNugent #Scoliosis #JusticeforHarvey independent.ie/irish-news/hea…
