For Throwback Thursday. 17/Apr/2008. 18yrs ago. I was 32wks along w/ Declan. I was 42yrs old, gestational diabetes, developing pre-eclampsia, fired 3mos earlier for being pg/unwed, no money coming in & a disabled 3y/o to take care of, too. I was terrified but blessed. Memories ❤️

My 60 year old friend was told she has 6 months to live, 9 months ago. We go out for a drink every month to celebrate her presence. Bad things happen to good people. Don't take yourselves or others for granted. Goodnight.

Hi all thank you so much for all your company and support today. I got seen and I am home now. I had a mini stroke. They gave me tablets and I will be called tomorrow or Friday to clinic. Onwards and upwards. Xx

@Stephen63224725 What they have done to ur darling Harvey, & did to too many others & continue to do to our children,our elderly,our most vunerable,a government tasked with the care of its people who refuses to listen, engage & be accountable is unworkable & the final straw for too many also

4: My final straw was the death of my 9-year-old son Harvey.Removed from the urgent list without our knowledge or consent. He died on 29 July 2025. And he's not the only one. No child should die like my son. What will YOUR final straw be?

While I naturally sympathise with anyone who says they couldn’t make appointments/treatment or access care due to the protests, I do find it incredibly hypocritical to hear our ‘health leaders’ talk about ‘unacceptable patient risk’. I feel the need to remind them that parents of children with Spina Bifida and scoliosis have been telling them for *years* about concerns around their care. We told them they were at risk of harm. We repeatedly asked for it to be investigated and it took years, unnecessary death and public protest to get them to show any real level of concern. This meeting to me was a tactic to condemn protestors rather than it actually being genuine concern for issues accessing healthcare.

According to this, only 4.5% of patients are being put forward for surgery and “Most referrals were "inappropriate", "not suitable for surgery at that time" and required "the use of scoliosis brace rather than surgical intervention". Suggesting that children have been referred ‘inappropriately’ is alarming but also the focus on bracing or casting sets off alarm bells. The one surgeon that didn’t want Harvey to go forward for surgery had wanted to put him in a brace. He wanted to brace him with a curve of 110° at the time, at the age of 8, and keep him braced for around 6 years. Not only was that not a suitable treatment for a curve that size, but for patients with neuromuscular scoliosis (like Spina Bifida or Cerebral Palsy) it’s actually contraindicated. If we had agreed to brace Harvey he likely would have become inoperable as he would lose the flexibility in his spine that is needed to be able to straighten the spine. If there are more patients currently being braced for long periods, expect to see an influx of patients being deemed inoperable in the years to come. In my opinion, it may be being used to remove kids from the waitlist to keep numbers down to appear as though they’re doing better, but ultimately not acting in the best interest of the patients.
