NEW: House Dems are increasingly alarmed by a threat to the transfer of power with no obvious solution:
What if Republicans keep the House but fail to elect a speaker by Jan. 6? "The House, effectively, doesn't exist."

At Maricopa County elections press conference, Recorder @stephen_richer says they've verified about 1.4m early ballot signatures so far. They've cured about 15k of the 27k that needed curing.
Tucker Carlson suggests the United States has been using military force to genocide Christians going back to the second atomic bomb being dropped on Nagasaki
I think you guys really have no idea what the average voter is like. Literally nobody on the planet outside of the most hardcore, committed GOP partisan has heard of this squirrel story.
@thatjondoe@Chrisvance123 They tried after 1/6 and then got harassed by MAGAs and folded like a cheap suit. As long as the fervent base supports trump, GOP will too. Unless they grow a spine I guess
@Chrisvance123 Is there a point at which the GOP begins to distance themselves from Trump because they know the margin of victory is so large they’ll simply look ridiculous by pushing election fraud lies? How long, once Trump becomes useless to them, will it take for them to start erasing him?
My take on the Selzer poll:
1. You can't talk about how accurate Selzer is, and how critical this poll will be before it is released, then hedge when it comes out with a result you didn't expect. This poll is almost certainly accurate, and...1/

Michael Wolff is such a BS guy.
He plays a snippet of a conversation he had with Jeffrey Epstein, where Epstein just repeats what he could read in a New York Times story.
Then Wolff says he has 100 hours of conversations recorded with Epstein, in which Epstein talks about the Trump White House in great detail.
So, you’re not going to release those tapes ahead of an election when Trump is at his peak in terms of newsworthiness?
Wolff knows how to capture a news cycle — why wait?
We know why.

@MumOf2RatBags@bluegeorgia@Omagic49 I would say if they have bank accts, yes. Taking money on their person, would probably be dependent on the people on the ground (likely yes). Hopefully, they are able to get assets to a us citizen or across the border. Civil forfeiture is crazy and scary regardless of citizenship
@bluegeorgia@Omagic49 Read about Operation WB. Something struck me.
Most of these people he rounds up, detains, then dumps randomly outside America have been here for years, decades. Working long hours. Pinching pennies. Saving. Buying houses.
Does Trump dump them penniless and steal their assets?
John Oliver with a brutal deconstruction of Trump's campaign promise of mass deportation, which he calls "despicable."
It would be logistically impossible to deport, let alone detain, 13M+ people — the total prison population is 1.9M — at an estimated cost of $88 billion a year.
@boltsmag@Taniel Yeah that was an easy No vote. Like instead of spending money to help solve homelessness, let's refund property taxes that go to fund education?!?!?!? Make it make sense
Arizona voters will decide next month whether to allow property tax refunds if cities don’t enforce laws against homelessness.

@OlsenTrini@notcapnamerica I know! There are tons of great new YA options too. Also a great time to intro to sci fi/fantasy (the hobbit!). I think he is keeping his kid in the young children's section. There is also a big difference between fast reading, reading comprehension and then actual understanding
@elkochan@notcapnamerica I started reading Stephen King at 12-but there’s an entire world full of middle school and young adult books like The Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Ramona…It just sounds like the dude is too eek to be bothered to bring his kids to the children’s section of a library.
Crowdsourcing a travel question: I’m finally getting to plan a trip to Japan after years of waiting to—what recommendations do people have of a place to stay in Tokyo and Kyoto specifically to start? (Any other recs welcome, but that’s my more urgent question!)
@UofAgrad97@notcapnamerica Oh, totally did too. And Anne Rice of course. My mom read VC Andrews and Misery with me. I was the 3rd by 6yrs, so they were just happy I was reading
