Hey, publishers! Alt text for your book covers should be a regular part of your metadata process. And no, "Book cover for Title by Author" is not sufficient. Describe the image & text. Be concise, but descriptive. The cover tells readers about the book. The alt text should, too.

“Digitizing Braille Materials with OCR and TEI". Ellen Forget (@ellen_mic) shows us how processes for using DH tools to work with braille have unique complications, and how they have trained an OCR model to read scans of embossed braille pages by using shadows.

@UrbanFantasyPhD I'm so sorry that people reacted that way to your taking much needed time to rest. I understand how it feels to think you don't belong. I hope you can lean on the people who will support you, and I hope you can be proud of the work you do. Sending you thoughts of peace.

@SHARPorg Hi! I'm getting ready to submit my abstract. Do they want the abstracts in an attachment (and what file format) or just in the body of the email? The page I'm looking at doesn't indicate a preference.

1) If we don’t talk about our chronic illnesses we must be fine. But if we DO talk about them, we’re being “negative” or “dramatic”. It sucks. Many of us just want to raise awareness & be understood/accepted as we are. No awkwardness or unsolicited advice—just radical acceptance

@Marie_LSJ @Nicola_LWilson @SHARPorg I'd love to meet you, too, and lots of folks! It's very possible. My funding due date was extended and the project I wanted to talk about just had a positive outcome. I'll definitely be submitting an abstract. It'll be my first in-person SHARP.

@JoannaNoBanana I walk with a cane. A porter was taking me and several others to another waiting room. I asked the porter to slow down because I couldn't keep up. They said no, I can just find my own way if I can't keep up, or wait in the hall and hopefully someone would find me. 🙃

Hi disabled and/or chronically ill friends, What make a hospital accessible to you?

If you ask a stranger about their disability and they respond with "I don't feel like discussing my medical history," that is not an invitation to ask follow-up questions. Also... just don't ask strangers about their disability.

Do any of my accessibility friends here have a good resource on writing alt text for sheet music? A friend of mine is faced with this task and would like a guide to help. #Accessibility #A11y #AltText

I am looking for interview participants for my doctoral research about how disabled readers access books. Participants need to be 18+, live in Canada, and have a print disability. This research has been approved by University of Toronto's ethics committee.

@DavyKent Not specifically. I need to complete the interviews by May, so I have a long lead time. But I'm only interviewing 10 people (so I can pay everybody). If they're interested but too busy to participate right now, they can still email me and we can wait to schedule the interview.
