I spoke today at the March for Life. This is not about shouting. It is about facing reality. Over 10,000 abortions took place in Ireland last year. Behind every number is a woman under pressure. Ask the real question. Why are so many women reaching this point? Housing. Cost of living. Fear. Lack of support. If those pressures remain, nothing changes. If we want fewer abortions, we must build a country where women feel safe choosing life. That means real support. Real responsibility. Real honesty. This debate is not over. Watch the speech below. #MarchForLife #ProLife #SupportWomen #Ireland

Independent Ireland/Aontú Second Poll Bounce: Could and Should Real Opposition Coalition Now Emerge? Further good news arrived this weekend for Independent Ireland and Aontú. The latest Ireland Thinks poll for the Sunday Independent confirms that the surge recorded last week by Red C is real and appears sustained. Both smaller parties have hit record highs, capitalising on widespread voter frustration with the coalition government’s handling of the energy and fuel crisis. According to the Ireland Thinks survey, conducted on May 1 with a sample of 1,774 adults, Independent Ireland, led by Cork South-West TD Michael Collins, has climbed to 9%, up three points since April. This matches Fine Gael’s support and ties the party with the Social Democrats. Aontú, led by Peadar Tóibín, rose one point to 7%. Together, the two parties now command a combined 16% of first-preference support. The gains follow April’s fuel protests, during which TDs from both parties actively participated in rallies highlighting rising energy costs and cost-of-living pressures. Fianna Fáil slipped two points to 17%, while Taoiseach Micheál Martin saw his personal approval drop six points. Sinn Féin remains the largest party at an unchanged 22%. With momentum building, the question now arises whether a real opposition coalition could and should emerge. Independent Ireland and Aontú, alongside a number of like-minded independents, could unite behind a shared set of principles, delivering on energy security, housing, and immigration control. Such an alliance would offer the Irish people something solid but exciting to rally around, with the potential to secure enough seats in the next general election to form a government. SnD Media has previously put this exact question to Independent Ireland’s Michael Fitzmaurice and Aontú’s Paul Lawless; while responses showed alignment on issues, that sense of unity still seemed a little off at the time. This marks the second poll in quick succession showing gains for the two parties. The Ireland Thinks results reinforce that the movement is not fleeting. With by-elections looming in Dublin Central and Galway West, the findings will be scrutinised closely. For Independent Ireland and Aontú, the challenge is converting polling strength into seats and organisation. Their visibility at protests has resonated with voters seeking alternatives. Whether this translates into deeper cooperation remains to be seen, but the polling bounce provides a timely opportunity to reshape the opposition landscape.
