@EvanMoorehead There also might be correspondence of his in the records of important people he was buddies with or worked with. That kind of stuff wouldn't be digitized, but it's worth a check-in with the archivists managing the collections. It seems like you're in this for the long haul 😂

@EvanMoorehead My spider-senses are telling me HSP might have some stuff. I think they've got all of the Philly newspapers on file and their photo morgues. Does the broadcasting company he worked with still exist? Where are their records at?

Some of my kids who tanked the first big test of the year did so much better on the second one. So cool. We're all getting better together!

This time two years ago I was really struggling to find effective strategies for using primary source maps with students. Looking at my curriculum now... maps make up over half of what I've been using in the last couple of units. Check out that glow up, eh? #TeachwStuff

Random source of joy from the classroom: watching my kids warm up to and befriend the new student in class.

I mean I often talk about the Second Great Awakening at parties but this was the first time I was explicitly invited to.

What a good two days! They did so well with this. Their engagement was really cool to see. Some kids who usually hang back came out and really shined. Wonderful!

One unit down, a little more comfortable in the classroom. Time to start getting a little more creative. A lil more primary sourcey. Tomorrow is Waldseemüller! Excited to see what they make of this. #TeachwStuff

It took a small army of compassionate and concerned colleagues at my new school to convince me to go home and get healthy when I was still so sick today. Here's to new and better mentors, y'all.

My mentor during my student teaching used to brag about doing her job while she was so sick that she needed a just-in-case trash can in front of her the whole time.

I loved my experience in museum and archives education, but by golly am I glad to be in a classroom this year. I get to build relationships and watch kids grow and stuff. So tight.

I'm finding that one of the most challenging parts of being a first year teacher is developing an organizational system that works. Someone hands me a piece of paper and I panic because I'm not quite sure where it should live. Any ideas?

Frederick Douglass knew the importance of the Declaration, which is why he used it to pen a searing indictment of slavery. Read his imperishable statement. thenation.com/article/what-s…

These community archives can be a goldmine for local teachers, too! #TeachwStuff

@LauraRuthBarry I live in Northeast Philly and a lot of the archives that exist up here exist as defacto community archives. They began as many archives do, by collecting institutional documents. Since many of the institutions that exist up here are embedded among community, they were tied to it
