my friend at Anthropic said they’re routing your requests specifically to the dumbest model (his name is Steve and they made him by distilling a CVS receipt)

I’m very excited to announce 🇺🇸 Gauntlet for America 🇺🇸 Our country needs AI-native engineers, and the U.S. Government is looking to Gauntlet AI to provide that capability. This is a COMPLETELY FREE, all expenses paid fellowship to prepare for high-stakes public sector roles.

Will is the rarest skill on earth right now. you can mass produce intelligence you can buy beauty you can fake status but you cannot download will from anywhere it has to be grown in suffering and nobody wants to suffer so nobody has any. one man with will is worth ten thousand without it. the future belongs to whoever can still force themselves to do things they do not want to do

To clarify: we are now in the “electronic trading has just been introduced” phase where retail traders/bootstrappers/small caps are making an incredible amount of money due to rampant market inefficiency And next comes the “high-frequency trading phase” where sophisticated AI entities with 1000 tentacles suck the alpha out of every crevice, making incredible profits and pushing out retail The latter has not been built yet, and it likely needs to be built from the ground up—it won’t be Google. You could build it. We are building Spellbook to thrive in this future.
Scott Stevenson@scottastevenson

Software is about to go through the same transition that stock trading did when algorithmic traders entered the market. AI will not be good for bootstrappers. They will be wrecked like retail traders were. There used to be many crevices of the market that large software companies couldn’t reach. Bootstrappers and small caps built nests there. But with AI, large software companies will start to look like multi-vertical hedge funds. With 1000 AI tentacles, they will suck the alpha out of every crevice. While one crevice may not have been appetizing enough to go after before, 1000 will be. Software will begin to have something like “market makers” who make money on everything. A small number of hedgefund-like software companies may come to own everything.

If you don't shamelessly promote your work, every day for the next 2-3 years, you will get stuck doing someone else's work until you realize that nobody is going to pay you if they have no idea who you are.

@_sholtodouglas If you haven’t gotten into game dev YouTube yet would recommend @SebastianLague , similarly fun experiments in longer form, less ai focused for now though

Spent a week over Christmas making an RTS (we’ve played too much AoE2 recently) - and my twitter algo has fully switched into game dev twitter. It’s incredibly wholesome - people are making some insane things (in particular, image -> mesh models mean some indie devs have created absurd production quality). RTS to share later post a little bit of polishing!

One of my favorite lessons I’ve learnt from working with smart people: Action produces information. If you’re unsure of what to do, just do anything, even if it’s the wrong thing. This will give you information about what you should actually be doing. Sounds simple on the surface - the hard part is making it part of your every day working process.

Things I've learned in 3 months of my internship: - waterproofing battery casings - screws… so many things about screws - statics diagrams for moments, distributed forces, beam bending - jupyter notebooks to physics models and design constraints - earth anchoring and soil composition - wind… lots about drag and pull out forces, distributed member forces, etc. - leaf springs - spring constants through bending - heat sink pressure distribution and heat efficiency - solidworks - lots of it but especially sheet metal - working with sendcutsend to make parts - using mills and lathes to fix your mistakes - deburring for hours and destroying your wrist - altium and how pcbs work (schematics, footprints, through holes, vias, sourcing electronic components, etc.) - bypass capacitors - pull up resistors - i2c bus speeds, rise times, total route impedance and capicitance - continuity testing, grounding checks, etc. for wire harness testing - getting pcbs made (output jobs, gerber files and nc drill hole files, pick and place types, etc.) - via plating, pre-baking, parts placement and inventory management - bom.. lots about bom

wrote this a month ago & 15 people liked it & that was enough to make me happy & put it out of mind. this weekend someone at substack found it & featured it & I went from around 100 subscribers to almost 4k over a few days. surreal.
