@mattforde Well after a week in which my productivity levels have hit a new low, I've just finished Troubled Blood. Totally & utterly unputdownable. Decided to crack right on with the next one, as the sooner they're all read the sooner I can get back to working/sleeping/socialising again 😆

As a kid I loved reading fiction. Roald Dahl, mainly. Once I was into my teens I became obsessed with non fiction, predominantly politics. For about 25 years, this is all I’ve read. Tonnes and tonnes of books about politics. Plus the occasional footballer’s autobiography. I genuinely get pleasure from these books, but I realised I was missing out on the joy of fiction, so I made an effort to get back into it. Stephen King’s Insomnia blew my mind but nothing has gripped me more than the Strike series. They are the most addictive stories I’ve ever read. I rush tasks and neglect chores so that I can get back to them. They’ve even crept into my dreams, and I never remember my dreams. OK, it was a nightmare and I woke up screaming, but that’s the awesome power of fiction. Shout out to up-and-coming writer @jk_rowling for creating them. If these continue to go well, maybe she’ll do kids books? I’ve missed out on years of fiction so if you’ve got any recommendations, of any genre, please let me know.

@mattforde Thankfully most of my Sunday plans consist of nothing more complex than sitting on the sofa reading it - hoorah!

But you also don’t engage with those who did write. Not even acknowledged you’d read their (repeated) correspondence… 🤷‍♂️ And it’s not like this is the first time constituents have complained about unacknowledged contact. (I’m also not allowed to actually reply your tweet?!)

@Angronn1 @RosieDuffield1 I wrote to mine nearly a month ago, so hardly late in the day.

Given this a matter very close to my heart I really hoped to have the opportunity to engage with my MP @RosieDuffield1 on the matter. Sadly numerous emails throughout the month have elicited no reply (or even acknowledgement). Terribly disappointing, especially given the below.

@RosieDuffield1 I’d have thought some sort of acknowledgment (auto response?) would be courteous. Listening to the debate it was clear many MPs had listened to their constituents’ views & engaged with them (even if to disagree). A shame I, and many other Canterburians, weren’t able to do that.

@eludlow Hi Ed, like many MPs (but very unusual for me), I did not send out standard responses on this issue. I decided instead to wait for the debate, sadly I wasn't called to speak. I think I've made my position clear.

@danm16476 Indeed, this is stuff that for example any small business operating on a shoe string budget should have nailed down. Rosie’s predecessor and I disagreed vehemently on the matter but he always gave the courtesy of a quick response be it by email, phone or (hand written!) letter.

@danm16476 @RosieDuffield1 Thanks, Dan. As you say, sadly too late given the bill’s debate & vote tomorrow. In 2024 I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect emails get a response in a timely manner. Constituents shouldn’t have to resort to the round-the-houses tactics you outline to engage with their MP.
