Sources close to the Taliban say that a complete media blackout will be executed against Afghan women this month. No women will be allowed on broadcasts, whatsoever. I have said this time and time again, gender apartheid is a staged process. The Taliban want women to disappear.

The international community has to be better at the voices it elevates across the global stage. This orientalist trope of "religious schools" as traditional structures of teaching does nothing but undermine the fundamental right of women and girls to quality education.

Rangina Hamidi, Afghanistan's Minister for Education fled Afghanistan for the US, saying there was no future for her daughter under Taliban rule. Yesterday, she advised girls deprived of education to attend mosques and religious schools. The hypocrisy is infuriating. theguardian.com/global-develop…

Appalled by student visa rejections for Afghan women and girls this week. I urge the UK and French governments to accelerate their visa processes. It's vital to support Afghan women and girls through action, not empty words. Education is an essential right, not a privilege.
