Patrick Berg of Norway has been my hipster player of the tournament. Part of that electric Bodo/Glimt squad. He’s looking like the next Modric. If I were a top team I’d be very interested in his services.

Dest got plenty of deserved criticism, but after looking at his lowlight reel, I’m baffled by how bad the U.S. shape was in possession. No options, nearest teammates not in a passing lane/running away. No positive options here. He tries a positive play, and loses out.

De Cuyper, Trossard, De Ketelaere, Onana all start on our team. we had a superior midfield though. Raskin and Vanaken aren’t Adams, Weston or Tillman.

USA straight up choked in that game They were favorites. They have a team worth 300m+ They were at home This wasn’t Davis vs Goliath. Belgium didn’t have way more talent. USA and its best players were just rattled and didn’t show up in a huge game

Too many people play fifa and think as long as you nick the ball it can’t be a foul. You have to win the ball. The touch changes absolutely nothing in the play. Homie might as well have missed entirely it doesn’t impact the play at all.

People are going to reduce this to some puerile agenda when there is a legitimate case of wrong doing here. “It is rigged, they didn’t send Messi off but they are sending Balogun off” is missing what the point should be. In any league or cup, both Messi’s (accidental) stamp and Balogun’s (accidental) stamp will be legitimate red cards. Important to note that the law does not cater to intention. So, why are they not red cards here? Simply because of the threshold this tournament has seen. Left frame has multiple similar stamps as Messi’s that were all unpunished and a major theme in almost all of them was that the offending player made a genuine attempt for the ball, didn’t seem malicious and was largely accidental. In this tournament, virtually every ‘tackle’ like that has gone unpunished and it is on this note that the @USMNT must appeal Balogun’s red card. It was not a challenge, it was not a tackle, they were jostling for the ball and the contact was accidental. It is important that you do not betray your education and reduce this to some puerile agenda.

If we’re going to say Balogun needs to be in control of his body, and risks injuring an opponent, thus it’s a red card - how is a forearm to the head at speed any different? Concussions are orders of magnitude more serious than sprained ankles and it’s not even really close.
