But Abacha is the bad guy?
Nigerians even rate Babaginda more than Abacha!
The guy who connived with the IMF to destroy your economy is the good guy. The guy who gave the IMF the middle finger and fixed some of the damage was the bad guy!
Let's look at some facts:
Babaginda when he got into power.
In 1985 Nigeria's national debt was $18 billion.
Foreign reserve was at $1.89 billion.
Inflation was at 7.44%
Exchange rate: N0.89 to 1$
In 1993 when Babaginda left power.
Nigeria's national debt was at $36 billion.
Foreign Reserve: $494 million
Inflation: Over 50%
Exchange rate: 22.50 naira to 1 dollar.
This is despite the oil windfalls and fair global prices of oil.
Abacha As Head Of State.
Increased Nigeria's foreign reserves from $494 million in 1993 to $9.6 billion by 1997–1998.
Reduced Nigeria's external debt from around $36 billion in 1993 to $27 billion by 1997.
Lowered inflation rate from over 50% to about 8.5%.
Avoided new loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF)
Promoted fiscal discipline in budget spending.
Stabilized the exchange rate at N22 to $1
All this was done with very low oil prices during the Abacha years.
But guess what?
According to some stupid Nigerians:
Abacha was the thief
Abacha was the bad guy
Abacha was the criminal that
hated Nigeria
Abacha was the dictator
Abacha was the yada yada yada yada yada yada Abacha stove!
All of una Dey Mad!!!!!
You think this generation of Nigerians are stupid? You think we won't see through all the stupid IMF/CIA propaganda?
You think we don't know who our true national heroes are?
If wishes were horses, I can give up one of my eyes, for us to go back to the Abacha era and reset Nigeria from there!
Iyo Obietonbara@sankofa360
At this point, I wish Abacha had succeeded. I wish he had been a bit more brutal. I wish he had gone hard on the so-called ''Nadeco democracy activists'' I wish Abacha had had a complete crash out! Honestly, I wish he had succeeded and survived. I really do wish.
