It’s official… I’m a PhD candidate! I’m so grateful for all the members of the @ManthiramLab 🤝 I’m so lucky to be surrounded by such brilliant scientists and wonderful friends. I can’t believe this is my life, it’s really a dream come true!

On Tuesday, history was made at Caltech. 600 Postdocs and Graduate Student Workers rallied at our Mass Membership Meeting. We called for a ✊ STRIKE AUTHORIZATION VOTE ✊, in support of a resolution written by the bargaining team.

From Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letter From Birmingham Jail,” written in 1963: “I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season."

For the people upset with college protests:

We WON our union at Caltech! 🎉 Over 76% of graduate students (799/1045 voters) and 83% of postdocs (240/290 voters) voted yes. This is the first time in academic labor history that grads and postdocs voted to unionize simultaneously. Onward towards a better Caltech! 💪
