What Trump doesn't quite seem to grasp, is that the islamic regime can agree to whatever terms he has, and they'll still abandon them the SECOND he is out of office. The IRGC knows no other leader after Trump will ever enforce a deal. This. Will. Never. Work. Long. Term.

As most know, I am a huge Reagan fan.  I campaigned for him in 1976 and 1980.  I served in his administration for 8 years.  But one of the biggest mistakes was amnesty granted to 2.3 million illegal aliens.  And on top of that, amnesty was granted BEFORE the Democrats promised border security was funded.  The Democrats simply refused to honor their part of the bargain.  Reagan would later say it was a mistake. Sequencing matters.  I am opposed to a deal.  I've been saying this for months.  Congratulations to those who've wanted a deal.  Looks like you've won the day.  And, if a deal is made, the Iranian regime will survive, at least for now.  We shall see how that works out over time.  I am quite skeptical any deal can contain the enemy or will be enforced for numerous reasons, especially after President Trump leaves office, or that the terrorists will cease being terrorists.   That said, I have to assume that if there is a deal, the Iranian regime will be required to perform what it promises first -- that is, as a condition precedent to any relief.  I believe it would be a huge mistake if not.  Among other things, if the Iranian regime doesn't intend to follow through, we ought to know upfront not later.  And it should be forced to reveal itself now.  And releasing billions and billions of dollars to them, which was withheld before the war, will be nearly impossible to control once in their hands, and will be used to strengthen the regime.  Of this I have no doubt.  That's who they are.  That's their mindset.  They answer to no one but themselves. And no Middle East country should be pressured to diminish its own national security for the sake of a deal.  Will Hezbollah actually survive and reestablish its dominance over Lebanon, and be free to keep shooting missiles into Israel?  Is that something we would accept?  This needs to be very clear.  "Israel's right to exist" cannot be only a slogan.  So far, I see nothing about the ballistic missiles, which is the most potent conventional weapon the Iranian regime has in its arsenal.  It'll be important to see how that is addresed. I'll be very focused on a whole bunch of issues if a deal is made.  We all should.  It would be very strange if we weren't.  This isn't just some foreign enemy thousands of miles away.  It has killed and maimed thousands of our fellow Americans during the last 47 years.  The President made the strongest case, repeatedly, for why military action was so essential and timely.  It would also be far more fruitful, not to mention intelligent, if our senators and congressmen who want a deal would tell us what and how they think the specific mechanics of a deal should work from their perspective.     More later ...

I spoke last night with President @realDonaldTrump about the memorandum of understanding to reopen the Straits of Hormuz and the upcoming negotiations toward a final agreement on Iran’s nuclear program. I expressed my deep appreciation to President Trump for his unwavering commitment to Israel’s security, including during Operation Roaring Lion and Epic Fury, when American and Israeli forces fought shoulder to shoulder against the Iranian threat. President Trump and I agreed that any final agreement with Iran must eliminate the nuclear danger. That means dismantling Iran’s nuclear enrichment sites and removing its enriched nuclear material from its territory. President Trump also reaffirmed Israel’s right to defend itself against threats on every front, including Lebanon. The partnership between us and our two countries has been proven on the battlefield and has never been stronger.  My policy, like President Trump’s, remains unchanged: Iran will not have nuclear weapons.

General Mike Flynn@GenFlynn

Dear Mr. @realDonaldTrump The regime in Iran is lying to you and your negotiators (period, stop!). Do not believe a word they say. I know you want to get out of this mess. All Americans want this unnecessary war to end. Keep in mind, as you have been told many times, Iran is still the leading state sponsor of terrorism (all anyone needs to say is Hezbollah, Hamas & Houthis, never mind IRGC-QF). None of these organizations are going away with this deal. How about getting them to first publicly apologize for killing American Soldiers and U.S. Marines many times over (especially on this Memorial Day weekend). Yes, we are all sick of it. And yes, the people of Iran must step up, but we need to signal to them, we will not concede their freedoms to the insane regime in Teheran. They deserve better. If we don’t, we will cause an entire population to be enslaved. For this, we have to smartly use our Middle East partners to support them along with our covert and clandestine operators. Trust me, if you support, this is very doable. Anyway, I’m watching everything (like most of the world is) and admittedly I do not have all the information. But if we pay tribute to the regime to the tune of $25B, I’m concerned they’ll use it for nefarious purposes down the road. No nukes in Iran may be a noble idea (an end goal for your administration) but the regime has blatantly lied to our faces before, why do you now believe they will tell you the truth? Give it some thought. Get some out of the box solutions, and rethink your position. The art of the deal tells you to do that from time to time. Now may be that time. @POTUS @SecRubio

A “deal” that is either a win for the rump regime in Iran or, crucially, even perceived as a win for it, will be a major blow to President Trump. No one without access the the details can fully assess what has transpired, but the media narratives are easy to predict.

I am deeply concerned about what we are hearing about an Iran “deal,” being pushed by some voices in the administration. President Trump’s decision to strike Iran was the most consequential decision of his second term. He was right to do so, and we achieved extraordinary military results—including destroying all of their missiles & drones and sinking their entire navy. If the result of all that is to be an Iranian regime—still run by Islamists who chant “death to America”—now receiving billions of dollars, being able to enrich uranium & develop nuclear weapons, and having effective control over the Strait of Hormuz, then that outcome would be a disastrous mistake. The details are still coming out—and I pray the early reports are wrong—but the fact that Biden’s Rob Malley is praising the deal is not encouraging. President Trump believes in peace through strength, and his strong leadership has already made America much safer. He should continue to hold the line, defend America & enforce the red lines he has repeatedly drawn.
