A deeply tragic and horrifying incident has been reported from Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, where a 14-year-old tribal girl from Teli Mohalla, Harog area, was found hanging from a tree under highly suspicious circumstances. The minor, who belonged to the nomadic Bakerwal community, had gone out to graze cattle as part of her daily routine when the incident occurred. Her family has levelled serious allegations, maintaining that this is not a case of suicide but one of brutal sexual assault and murder. If these claims are substantiated, it points to an act of extreme brutality that demands unequivocal condemnation and urgent, decisive action. The girl had stepped out for routine grazing when this deeply disturbing sequence of events unfolded. The family alleges that she was subjected to heinous violence and later killed by hanging. The incident is both chilling and deeply distressing. Such brutality against a minor is not only a heinous crime, but also a grave assault on our collective conscience and the very values that bind us as a society. The family continues to await the medical report, which remains crucial in establishing the truth and determining the precise circumstances surrounding her death. There is an urgent need for a time-bound, impartial, and transparent investigation to ensure accountability at every level. The medical and forensic examination reports must be expedited and made available without any further delay, so that the truth is established clearly and beyond doubt. We request HCM @OmarAbdullah Sb. to personally take cognizance of the matter and ensure that the investigation is conducted in a fair, swift, and transparent manner. I ran into an ex after a long time. The last time we met, we were sitting over lunch when she quietly pulled out a pencil and sketched me within a span of few minutes. I remember being genuinely amazed at how effortlessly she did it. Today, half-joking, i asked her to draw me again. She smiled, a little apologetically, and said she doesn’t draw anymore coz it’s haram. I was about to say something (probably unkind) but before i could, she added that she’d gone through a really rough mental phase, and then a Peer sob had advised her to give it up. I inquired about the Peer sob and turned out it was the same Peer sob whose youngest daughter blocked me last year because i refused to take her to the Sonu Nigam concert.
