BREAKING: A conservative court packed with Trump-appointed judges just ruled to ROLL BACK access to the abortion pill. This is a page straight out of extremist Republicans’ anti-abortion playbook. Let me be clear: the abortion pill is safe and effective. We must fight back.

@mkristensen Include benchmarks as a form of unit test (obviously tagged so the overhead of benchmarks isn't high)

How can we make the unit testing experience in Visual Studio significantly better? C++ and .NET devs: What’s your biggest frustration with Test Explorer, test discovery speed, debugging, Live Unit Testing, Google Test integration, or anything else? Drop your ideas/suggestions below 👇 #VisualStudio #dotnet #cpp

@mkristensen @EngstromJimmy Do agree there are more useful non AI things too work on. For example shouldn't the save icon change to indicate there is changes to be saved like notepad++? The green plus dot on different icons? The solid color draws the eye like it's important when it just opens a new window

@mkristensen @EngstromJimmy If you're going to make an effort to make a change make it customizable. Solid works better in light mode but in dark mode sticks out too much. Icons that stick out more should only be used when there is good reason to stick out more and grab the user's attention

We're looking at updating the folder icons in Solution Explorer for Visual Studio 2026. Which do you prefer?

@mkristensen If there was no cost increase small insignificant gains aren't bad. Maybe lack of big gains means more chance to dedicate resources to those with jobs where they can't use cloud hosted AI (can do self hosted on box or a local server)

From my real-world use cases, I haven’t seen any significant improvements in coding models since Opus 4.5 and GPT-5.3 Codex. The newer releases feel like incremental updates that don’t deliver meaningful gains for my workflows.

@mkristensen The ability to use copilot and the other AI features without using the cloud. Either on box or a server run internally to the company. That way I can use the features as it feels like almost all the new features are ai/copilot based. We can't send any of our data to the cloud

Friday question: What issue with Visual Studio 2026 did you run into this week, that would make you happy to see fixed?

Everyone needs to stop saying hill climbing. Hills are not that hard to climb. You just walk slowly up the hill.

@mkristensen It's frustrating when MS employees talk about how useful copilot is for use on everything when they have unlimited tokens so don't have to ration them in any way. Also frustrating how MS doesn't allow copilot to work for companies that would only it if they could run the server

One thing I *really* love about Copilot and AI coding agents is that the ROI an almost anything I can think of is now positive. I'm revamping old projects, fixing bugs in legacy systems, tackling much larger projects, and enjoying it all every bit of the way

I've ardently defended Erika Kirk from the ostensibly serious podcasters & media stars defaming her and baselessly implicating her in crimes. But my feelings about the comedian Druski's mockery of Erika Kirk are more complex. For years, I, and many others on the Right, defended edgy and wildly offensive comedy, like mocking trans people and even joking about horrible things like domestic violence, the Holocaust, and AIDS. How can anyone on the Right really argue, in that context, that a comedian mocking a widow is somehow beyond the pale... without being totally hypocritical?

@BasedMikeLee Page 20 starting at line 18. Private right of action "registers an applicant to vote in election for federal office who fails to present documentary proof of citizenship" An affidavit is under the category of those without documentary proof. So they get sued

1. This is a lie 2. Read the damn bill 3. The text beginning on page 12, line 22 makes abundantly clear that what you’re saying isn’t true 4. Why can’t Senate Democrats argue against this bill without lying?

@BasedMikeLee "subject to any relevant guidance by the election assistance commission" so not fully up to the states. "Establish a process" so doesn't have to be free "Submit such other evidence... Demonstrating the applicant is a citizen" so not just an affidavit.

@shanselman File search should be much faster when searching by file name. Why can't I search inside my source code like I can with notepad++ (sure vs.net can search inside a solution but what if I have many solutions to search?)

@shanselman AI features needs to be more clear between what is local and what uses the cloud. Speed, security, trust level in your information going outside your computer, etc.

@ibuildthecloud @davidfowl I agree there is a huge mindset difference. It feels like if you want to do something like kubernetes and you're a Windows person you can't. If I'm working on a .net web service there is no easy/cheap equal to a Linux node living in the cloud. This forces code to run on Linux

@enki42ea @davidfowl I think it's because of culture, not technology. There is really a huge mindset difference between the windows world and the Linux world.

@davidfowl Does having unlimited tokens make it so you do things that aren't realistic for others? GitHub copilot has 300 premium requests per month for pro and pro+ is at 1500. Do you go way past that limit?

Since December my primary coding development has shifted back to the CLI. I primarily use copilot CLI for my day to day development, I still have a claude max plan and I occasionally use claude code as well. I use VS code to look at diffs of the code but haven't written much by hand in ~1.5 months. I used big VS the other day to do some advanced multi threaded debugging, but I rarely open it now. PS: I have unlimited tokens.

@Dave_DotNet Better breakpoints with the "old way". Does no one care about making it easy to set a breakpoint on a single operation that you can't do on these one line new methods?
