OpenZeppelin removed isContract ELI5 on why this is huge for account abstraction: so far, dapp developers used .isContract for reasons such as "to stop bots minting my NFTs", "for security", etc. Doing this completely break interactions with AA wallets such as Safe, Ambire, Argent, etc. is there any good technical reason for doing this? Absolutely NOT, let's debunk each one - NFT contracts use is to stop bots minting: bots can still mint via Flashbots - Bridges use this to prevent funds from getting burned by sending them to non-wallet contracts: yes, but it has to opposite effect: funds are getting stuck or permanently burned when people use that bridge with an AA wallet - to prevent reentrancies: there are better ways to do this It's just that isContract encourages a myth that smart contracts are not user accounts. Dapp developers think of it as "is it an EOA? then it's a user. Else, it's a dapp contract". Re-educating developers about this can start by getting rid of isContract itself. Big win!

OpenZeppelin just released v5 of their contracts repo The most tragic loss of all may be the deletion of Counters.Counter, which was used to increment numbers. Its removal has taken a heavy toll on the NFT community, who can no longer figure out what tokenId should come next

A lot of folks don't realize that crypto is really the 3rd generation of the internet, re-decentralizing it. It is Web 3. Fully aligned with the goals of financial inclusion and checking the power of big tech.
