Every time Thanos was teased in the INFINTY SAGA • Mid-credit teaser in The Avengers (2012) • Small role in Guardians of the Galaxy (May 2014) • Phase Three announcement event with sizzle reel ending on Thanos wearing the Infinity Gauntlet (Oct 2014) • Mid-credit teaser in Avengers: Age of Ultron (May 2015) • The presence of Thanos at the end of Thor: Ragnarok (2017) Not to mention the fact that Phase Two and Phase Three were partially about the Infinity Stones. He was definitely peppered in enough to build anticipation to INFINITY WAR and ENDGAME. Come on, Kevin.

@ent_thoughts The events of Age of Ultron absolutely lead to Thanos. Thor has the realization the infinity stones are the most powerful objects in the universe, one of them is literally implanted in Vision’s head.

People knew every mentioning and prior movie that included an infinity stone was part of the build up to Thanos though. There has been nothing equivalent or parallel to that for Doom.

@ent_thoughts @kerry_comcgrl77 Much like for the Multiverse Saga; the build-ups have been references to the multiverse, nexus beings and incursions. Which were leading to Kang. Marvel just pivoted Kang to Doom. It’s not a perfect pivot, but it works enough.

The effectiveness of Thanos build up has been constructed in your head. The Thanos they presented in Avengers, GOTG, and AoU wasn’t even the same character as the one they built in IW. That version lusted for power and death. The one we ultimately got was instead obsessed with population control. James Gunn admitted they were making it up as the went along. People think it worked better than it did because Infinity War was so great with a well-written, different Thanos.

This is such a maddening answer from #KevinFeige . You don't have to shit on your past work to desperately elevate your current work because the #Marvel brand is on shaky ground and you need #AvengersDoomsday to work. His response undercuts the hard work of every writer, actor, director and below the line person who shot those scenes to make them as effective as possible and then carefully laid out where to install them along the way in the MCU....including Feige! The effectiveness of the Thanos rollout wasn't built up in our heads. We're not all under some mass hypnosis believing that we liked it. We ORGANICALLY liked it. So accusing the fans of overstating its effectiveness is a ridiculous answer. You're ironically trying to manipulate or even gaslight fans into believing a new false narrative about the Thanos rollout after accusing THEM of concocting a false narrative about it. Come on now.

@ManaByte You miss the entire argument. I agree with the first part of your tweet, but no one is complaining the Multiverse hasn’t been set up, we are complaining Doom wasn’t. He was a last minute pivot, and it’s not really up for debate. That’s just the real world of what happened

For the past six years, the easiest MCU engagement bait on this app was screaming, "The MCU ended with Endgame!" or "It’s dead without RDJ and Evans." People proudly skipped every movie and show just to farm likes off of fake nostalgia. Now Avengers: Doomsday is on the horizon. Because those same people spent the entire Multiverse Saga willfully ignoring the overarching narrative, they have absolutely no clue what the actual state of the universe is. So, what’s the new grift? "There’s no build-up!" It’s lazy. If you actually paid attention instead of chasing clout, you’d see the mechanics of the Multiverse and incursions have been heavily established. Honestly, the structural world-building they've done for this saga is arguably better than the Infinity Stones.

@JeffDLowe @RobbieBarstool Sure. In terms of physical representation, you can’t deny that. But the infinity stones are part of the thanos build up. Every time we saw a stone popup in a movie, it was a huge deal. Mcu audience used to wonder what movie is going to have what stone, play into the gauntlet etc.

I fully understand all of the concern (and hate) for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, but Feige is spot on here. There’s a myth about how much Thanos was built up. Sure, he lurked, but ‘Infinity War’ is what made Thanos the movie character we talk about today, not the stuff before it.
