@EggErin @IanH77 @virome_girl Yes! We’ve been testing different post processing for some time, diff extraction and clean up kits and their effects on yield and shearing. It’s turned un-library-able goop into cleaned up DNA good for libs. For us the best combo is MinElute Virus + EtOH precip + VivaSpin

@alaurenoconnell @kristenobacter Indeed, complexities abound! I invite rethinking what punishment means, who gives it, who receives it. And to think beyond the well-funded PI paradigm. Power is held at many levels in acad hierarchy—even upperclass UGs in a lab. Perhaps 2-way redefinition of roles & expectations?

@envirophage @kristenobacter This is such an important framework on how to approach healing. I hope we can can use this to think of ways to approach this problem of abusive PIs. The hard part is getting admin or funding agency buy in to actually punish wellfunded abusive PIs.

Every department has abusive labs that many grad students leave. My question: what accountability measures are in place in your dept to address these issues from the student or faculty side?
