Efficiency cannot be measured by volume alone. Patients becoming more complex but the tools we have are from the 1980s. No EHR and no electronic prescribing in almost every hospital. Disconnected lab systems with no single patient identification number. Glacial progress on IT.

Increased efficiency and patient safety is what we all want but needs significant investment and planning in healthcare IT infrastructure
