This is a 1000yrs old close-weave leaf or grass fibre textile from Igbo-Ukwu. This proves that Igbo people have been weaving way before any other group in Nigeria got clothing. Can you show us the oldest textile from Yoruba land? “I can’t say the same for y’all.”💀

ANOTHER letter sent to Igbanke has surfaced. A Benin-aligned group, Otedo Youth Worldwide, wrote to an Igbanke community requesting a “family visitation” and “community sensitization” to promote “unity” under the Ubini/Benin structure. This is another in a series of letters reportedly sent to Igbanke communities, despite the fact that Igbanke people have already publicly declared that they are Ika Igbo, not Bini. In response to these reconciliation moves, the Igbanke Strategic Initiative convened an emergency meeting on 27 February 2026 and issued a firm communiqué: • Igbanke people reaffirm they are NOT Bini • The reconciliation initiative raises serious concerns about its intent • Any expectation that Igbanke Obis should remove their crowns or kneel before the Oba of Benin is humiliating, an insult and completely unacceptable. • Igbanke Kings will not participate in any such reconciliation effort Another troubling issue in the letter is the use of the title “Enogie” to address Igbanke traditional rulers. Igbanke traditional rulers are Obis and Ezes. Addressing them as Enogie, a Benin title is seen as an insult, because Igbanke people do not recognise that title in their traditional system. Continuing to send such letters and using titles that we, Ika people do not recognise shows a refusal to respect our identity and traditional institutions. Igbanke has already spoken — they are Igbo. That position must be respected. #Igbanke #Anioma #Ika #IgboIdentity

Ika-Igbo communities in Edo State have lamented that they remain politically stranded and administratively neglected, declaring their unwavering support for the Anioma State creation zoned to South-East.

The Benin traditional council reportedly sent a “reconciliation” letter to some kings in Igbanke — urging them to reject Anioma State and remain in Edo State, and to present Igbanke and Bini as “brothers.” Igbanke has already made its position clear to the world: • We are Igbo. • We seek boundary adjustment. • We choose Anioma State Igbanke leaders and people rejected the overtures, stating clearly that they are not Bini. Political pressure disguised as reconciliation will not rewrite identity. The era of expansionist narratives over Igbo communities must end. Self-determination is not hostility — it is dignity. More information coming soon. #Igbanke #AniomaState #IgboIdentity #BoundaryAdjustment

They should never accept that so-called reconciliation letter from the Oba and his council. It's nothing but a thinly veiled attempt to keep Igbanke under permanent Benin control—control over their communities, their traditional institutions, their land, and ultimately whatever economic or political advantages come with dominating them. The moment they bow to this pressure and start calling themselves "brothers" with Benin while rejecting their own aspirations, they've handed over their future on a platter. Trusting the Oba of Benin here would be the single biggest, most irreversible mistake the Igbanke people could ever make. We've seen this playbook before: promises of brotherhood today, followed by interference, suspensions and replacement of local kings, imposition of foreign customs, and gradual erosion of local autonomy tomorrow. It's not reconciliation—it's domination dressed up in polite language. Their survival, their dignity, their ability to chart their own destiny, and any real shot at meaningful development and prosperity all depend on breaking free from this endless cycle of external dictation. The only viable, forward-looking choice is full commitment to the call for an Anioma State. That move aligns them with people who share linguistic, cultural, and historical ties, opens doors to better representation, infrastructure investment, and self-governance without someone else trying to control and dictate to them what they should or shouldn’t do. Anything short of that is just signing up for more of the same suppression and second-class treatment they've endured for far too long. Stand up for yourselves Igbanke. Your future is too valuable to trade away for empty promises and royal ego.

Bini people love Igbos so much that they bear Igbo names and choose to speak Igbo. The great Benin Empire abi Kingdom no love their own language na Igbo dem come love pass. This is sarcasm in case you don't understand. Ikwerre, Anioma, Igbanke is Igbo land. The Benin Kingdom's encroachment on Igbo land cannot wipeout Igbo history.
