Question: “What do the ‘woke’ mean by de-colonize?” Answer (read below, and): “In the context of modern social justice activism, "de-colonize" refers to the active process of identifying, challenging, and dismantling the continued influence of European colonialism, white supremacy, and Western hegemony across all aspects of life […] the term is used broadly to attack Western culture or serves as a ‘boutique position’ for academic activism rather than practical change.”

You do not honor other cultures by weakening your own. You honor them by standing firmly in what is yours. Shakespeare is not a symbol of domination. He is one of the clearest expressions of what human language can reach at its highest level. His work survived because generation after generation, across cultures, found truth in it. What they are calling decolonising is diluting something rooted, tested, and refined over centuries. This is what happens when a civilization loses confidence in its own inheritance. The idea that Shakespeare being universal is harmful reveals something deeper. It suggests that greatness itself has become suspect. That if something endures across time and place, it must be explained away, not studied. That instinct erases standards. Tradition is not exclusion. It is memory. It is the record of what a civilization discovered was worth preserving. Once you start apologizing for that, you create a vacuum where nothing holds. A culture that cannot defend Shakespeare will not be able to defend anything else that made it.

You're suggesting that criticism of The Koran's command to kill 'infidels' is intimidation ? Are you expecting people like me to cheer as the prospect of being massacred ? You are a very, very silly little man In fact I suspect you are a Roman Atkinson sketch

@PathogenScribe I chose evidence, but wish there was an option for wild type health risk vs vaccine risk. I’ll take an even moderately effective / slightly risky vaccine for a potentially lethal pathogen.

@newstart_2024 @peterboghossian I *have* watched this insanity unfold in real time. I think gender ideology has done the most harm because it touches everything — biology, evolution, data collection, law, parental rights, psychology, women’s rights, … Tho the “post-modern turn” has been lethal to truth.

The moment the West decided evidence no longer mattered — if it got in the way of utopia. Melanie Phillips (former Guardian journalist): “Objective evidence was cast aside because it was too inconvenient. The very idea of reason and rationality was dismissed. All these ideologies — multiculturalism, lifestyle choice, deep green environmentalism, moral relativism — were utopian. They promised perfection. Anyone who brought facts against them wasn’t just wrong… they were evil.” Result? - Evidence became “right-wing” - Dissenters were bullied, ostracized, fired, threatened - The Guardian itself became the heart of this ideological machine… until she fell foul of it. When ideology is sacrosanct and the world must be perfected, facts become the enemy — and truth-tellers become heretics. Have you watched this shift in real time — where inconvenient evidence gets labeled “hate” or “misinformation”? Which sacred ideology do you think has done the most damage to open debate? Your honest take 👇

@mysteriouskat No. Celebrity culture was and is a mistake. Facebook, Instagram, etc are games where the goal is celebrity status. It brings out the worst in their user populations because the most compelling incentives are perverse. Otoh, Amazon’s business model does not do this.

Matthew Wright proves our point on LBC this morning. The official definition of Islamophobia — now repackaged as “anti-Muslim hostility” — is already silencing legitimate debate and criticism of Islam and its practices. It amounts to a de facto Muslim blasphemy law. The treatment of Nick Timothy by Labour MPs is deeply sinister. The Shadow Justice Secretary criticised mass Muslim prayer in Trafalgar Square, was reported to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, branded “Islamophobic”, and faced calls to resign from Labour MPs and even the Prime Minister. This morning, FSU External Affairs Officer @_ConnieShaw was invited on to discuss the comments made by Nick Timothy. Matthew Wright didn’t want to hear it. After the interview, he told another guest he had “closed her down” because she was “putting out anti-Muslim hatred”. Farcical. In a crowded field, Matthew is this week’s runner up as for chief enforcer of the blasphemy law this week. 👏

@stellacreasy Muslim mass prayer exists to project power. People praying, even silently, outside clinics are there to pass jusgement by their presence. We should not tolerate either.

Buffer zones don't ban prayer. They uphold the privacy of women having an abortion. If prayer was banned in public then no one could do it. Those getting upset about iftars in public seem to want to agree there's a 'time and place' for everything. Hyperbole and hypocrisy do not for reasoned debate make.
Victoria Freeman@v_j_freeman

I mean, she did. Whatever her reasons she did do that. Creasy can’t then argue others having an issue with public prayer are more suspect than her. But some religions are more readily attacked by MPs than others & for some inexplicable reason that includes our state religion.

@Martina I’ve been to Israel twice. It’s one of the most cosmopolitan places I’ve ever been. I met more people from all over the world than there than anywhere I’ve been , except maybe Silicon Valley. The idea that Israel is some sort of bloodthirsty apartheid is completely upside down.

The more I read this, the more I realize how it is utterly illiterate. How exactly do you decolonize someone’s birthplace? He lived there. No one came in and conquered his house. It’s just a house of a man that exists. These people are exhausting 🙄

#dkpol

@jonatanpallesen I fully support remigration, but I worry that your lump sum payment will encourage people to come just to claim it and allow themselves to be picked up? I am totally on board with paying airlines directly to facilitate return.

The commenters are raging at the idea of paying immigrants for leaving, saying they should get nothing. Guys, raging on the internet has done nothing for any Western European country. We need a solution that can actually happen in our European democracies. And as soon as possible. 5 more years of the current situation would amount to the same fiscal cost as my entire program of remigration. And in 50 years my suggestion would have earned itself back ten times. So let's go for a compromise with the empathic left, instead of just continuing with the status quo.
Jonatan Pallesen@jonatanpallesen

My 3 point plan for saving the future of Europe: 1. Give each immigrant $60k to leave Europe. 2. Make a deal with third countries with low cost of living that they will take immigrants if it is not safe in their home country, in return for large financial support. 3. Cut all welfare to immigrants. This will save billions and billions over the future decades, and prevent a large number of rapes, and not a single immigrant will be left destitute or unsafe.

🚨 NYT: The elimnation of Ali Larijani is causing anxiety among many regime officials in Iran. “There was a widespread feeling of anxiety that Israel would not stop until all Iranian leaders were killed and the Islamic Republic fell." Two senior Iranian officials described their security concerns: one said he received calls from other officials worried about the safety of Iran's leaders and their own. Everyone wondered, "Who will be the next target?" he said. Another senior official said he trembled when he received the news of Larijani's killing.
