He says in the video that a nonprofit has already offered to put up $720,000/year in rent on a 10-year lease. The problem here (based on the information provided) is that this is a designated historical site with a willing renter that the owner would rather tear down and sell. Normally I'm a YIMBY die-hard, but I do think it defeats the purpose of a designating buildings as historical sites if owners can simply remove the label and demolish the property without proof that preservation isn't achievable.

@PaulSkallas Works to the inverse as well. If you set low expectations but deliver quality, you’re much more likely to get positive word of mouth. At scale, it’s much more sustainable to undersell than oversell.

Something like this could hurt a lot of restaurants. The food poisoning at Chipotle years ago really damaged them for a bit. But a place like Taco Bell is fine. People already have low expectations when eating there.

@ericljaffe I agree that there’s opportunity in monetizing your niche today but I think there are smaller artists that could benefit from more mainstream appeal. Like a lot of lyrical rappers don’t have the songwriting skills needed for a hit or they don’t prioritize it and are missing out
