@dinosaur_info i mean what you're doing is impossible, because no matter what number wound up in that last slot i would feel offended, probably. but knowing that doesn't stop my feelings

@rhodeschord @meadandjuniper @juskewitch tell me you've never been to a brothecary without telling me you've never been to the brothecary, amirite

@dinosaur_info you can get somewhere thinking he's pulling a david chase — that he was just putting on a happy, simpleton's face for the rabid media wanting him to spoonfeed them the meaning of the show. but... you can't get all the way on that read. the show is airtight, his reads are... not.

@erikk38 That was my takeaway, too. As soon as I learned that he genuinely thought that Coke commercial was a good piece of art -- that advertising could legitimately be art -- and that the ending was intended to be hopeful and not cynical, I knew we were speaking different languages.

@dinosaur_info i spent tons of time after the series ended consuming every weiner postmortem, and ultimately, doing this reavealed there was no reason to do it. in a basic "author's dead" kind of way, it doesn't matter if he gets it. his writers' room does, and they seem to steward the show.
English

@erikk38 Overall this is a great read but it's always so hard for me to square because it seems the last person on earth who knows what's happening in these scenes is Matthew Weiner. And that's fine I guess, I just always wonder what he thinks about this stupid little mess he made.
English

@dinosaur_info this is just an absolutely wonderful way to characterize that last shot. the octopus parallel is fantastic.
English

@erikk38 I like "the emptiness that Don creates." That's right. What you said about Peggy, too, is right. In that last shot she's caught between her two loves -- her work (the typewriter) and Stan, who's reaching around her, embracing her, just like that octopus. She gives nothing back

@dinosaur_info i think they leave him on the edge. the guy who felt he was light-years removed from his natural habitat when he moved to connecticut is now gonna be based in wichita — or really based nowhere. based in the sky. will that work? or will he find a new pied-à-terre back in the city?
English

@erikk38 Never wrote back about this but woke up thinking about it. All of this rings true to me except the campbells -- I think Pete has really changed, he's the only character that does change. "I think it feels good until it doesn't," he tells his brother, and he means it & knows it
English

@DelRey my mind knows this is a pretty good joke, but my body just reacted in such a way that says: don't even joke

Thibs has his flaws but this feels like a Dolan decision
Well…it was fun while it lasted

BREAKING: The New York Knicks are relieving Tom Thibodeau of his duties as head coach, sources tell ESPN. Thibodeau led the Knicks to their first East Finals in 25 years, made playoffs in 4 of 5 years and led Knicks to consecutive 50+ win seasons for first time since the 1990s.
