@LiaSae So if a French citizen moved to Ireland exercising FoM rights (n.b. this may require taking up employment etc) they could then change their name by deed poll & legal gender by statuatory declaration and - per my reading of this judgement at least - France must recognise it

@LiaSae Yeah, this judgement certainly doesn't seem to say that a member state must offer non-citizens a procedure for change of legal gender; but an EU citizen resident in another EU member state which permits non-citizens to go through their gender change process (DE,IE,etc) can use it

@LiaSae (Actually the fact that the person in question was a dual citizen here could have weakend the case, because the ECJ has sometimes held that a dual citizen is *not* exercising their freedom of movement rights when residing in a country of citizenship)

@LiaSae The only real way I can see this decision not being helpful is if someone lives in an EU member state which has a legal gender change procedure but said procedure is only accessible to citizens

@leuprolide I would expect a much more opportunistic approach: you randomly catch a shoplifter, and then is facial recognition etc to go through recordings of previous self checkouts etc

@LiaSae If secrecy is imperative, use an end to end encrypted messenger, of course; but you should have been doing that before anyway

@LiaSae Update: more recently, they've decided to prohibit talking about suicide, and then banned someone on the receiving end of harassment talking about their partner's suicide Things are going rather well on bluesky right now...

@fasterthanlime Yes, anyone can announce anything they want. Upstreams need to do the right thing and filter announcements. RADB is our friend.

@LiaSae Me looking at it: "there are too many companies here which are legally independent, someone was being way too clever"

@whitequark @kanbaruliker69 I think it's a very common problem area tbh, in general finding and tearing down the barriers between you seems like an important part of maintaining a healthy relationship
