Politicize this all you want. It’s my experience and I will see it through my eyes. We need a government that does what it says it will do. We don’t have that. We have to fix that. I’m fine. But others aren’t. This isn’t okay. END

Happy to share that my role at @KQED is growing. I’m now Executive Director of Radio Programming and Content DEI. In addition to the exciting broadcasts we do, I’ll also now oversee diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in the Content division. I'll work closely with our Chief DEI Officer and teams to ensure our internal culture and our programming authentically serves the diverse Bay Area community we cherish. @jonathanstray @civimpact No, but I'd be glad to talk with you about it (just DM me). We were actually discouraged from doing this work by some journo funders, so we conducted it solely for the development of our own media impact analytics applications.

@ernieting @civimpact Is this research published anywhere?

We now have dozens (hundreds?) of "does social media cause polarization?" studies. I'd like to see a ton more research on "does consuming news cause polarization?" I suspect the answer is yes.

@jonathanstray @civimpact We were hoping that our polarization impact metrics and tools could be used by journalism orgs to reduce any inadvertent polarizing effects of their coverage. But even after the hyperbolic 2016 election cycle, we found relatively few orgs open to trying to address this.

@jonathanstray Strongly agree. @civimpact we finally paused development of our information impact and polarization metrics and tools for journalists because we found a lot of resistance -- and outright hostility -- to acknowledging that this could be happening.

@jonathanstray @civimpact 2/ And our prior research demonstrated that most MSM coverage significantly increased affective polarization for both left and right leaning audiences. Essentially we saw a big U-shaped curve where only moderates were substantially unaffected.
