Brian Kohberger is a legit psychopath. This guy was a graduate student in criminology, and stabbed four people to death in a sneak attack in Idaho - almost like this was part of his education. They had DNA evidence on him, pulled the death penalty in exchange for him pleading guilty and accepting life in prison. Now he is seeking post-conviction relief, representing himself, and claiming he is innocent. It looks like a form of entertainment for him, similar to Ted Bundy representing himself, who is probably a hero of the former criminology student. They should have just gone for death in the first place.

Kafka wrote a diary for years, filling notebooks with scrutiny of his own personality, general observations of things going on around him, literary sketches, drafts of potential writing projects. All diaries are narcissistic in a sense - the writer views himself as worth writing down. But there is a right way and a wrong way to do it. Honest self-examination, observations of the world and trying to advance your writing style are good uses of a diary. Saying ‘everyone loves me, I’m going to be on TV again’ is the wrong way.

@Zommervogel Obviously this is only true of portions though, I wouldn't call Pynchon's corpus one oriented towards page turners. Though I think I have read somewhere that DFW read Gravity's Rainbow in a week, but that might be apocryphal

@Zommervogel Not having read Submission, I was thinking about what other pieces of writing have frenetic/pageturning quality in the way that BAM does, and I think some passages from Pynchon sort of do, mayb viewed as captivating aphoristic portions of much "slower" novels that he's known for.

I was thinking about this while writing, a serious page turner would require immense discipline and sacrifices to the content, not sure how to solve that puzzle. I'm also conflicted, because it seems the unique quality novels can still offer is to be meditative, to "slow down" life. Schopenhauer said the greatest novels are about nothing.

In case you didn't know, all of the allegations of sexual misconduct, abuse, harassment, and "frat boy culture" was entirely fake and the state of California even admitted that there was no evidence substantiating any of the claims. The ENTIRE controversy around Blizzard was setup by California to force the company to stop hiring White men using MeToo allegations to strong arm them. Some of these accusations were so bizarre and insane that they included: - Theft and consumption of breastmilk during work hours - A "rape room" named after Bill Cosby - Sexual harassment to the point of an employee ending her own life All of these claims were essentially a theatre performance over the fact that ONLY 1-in-5 of Blizzard employees were women. As a result, Blizzard agreed to pay roughly 18M in fines and setup HR hiring practices that would discriminate against White men. Internal messages between California Civil Rights Divison officials showed that the entire thing was a ploy to "send a message to the industry" to literally ruin videogames. It was SO FUCKING FAKE that Brack and Kotick literally PAID THEIR OWN EMPLOYEES TO STAGE A WALK OUT. After Blizzard capitulated and announced it would discriminate in its hiring the state walked back from a billion dollar lawsuit to a 55M settlement and announced that all the allegations were false.

This story is actually insane. The police picked up a 16 yr old girl that was kidnapped by Omar (the guy Shiloh Hendrix insulted) and his brother at a gas station. They raped her for two days. She was found "sleep-deprived, dehydrated, and had not eaten recently" according to the nurse that examined her. They found her glasses in their trailer. She identified them perfectly in a lineup. Then, in the middle of the case, prosecutors discretely dropped charges with no explanation and no oversight. "In the interest of justice," they said. This was just one month before the Shiloh Hendrix incident. During the Shiloh Hendrix trial, we find out that Omar's son, who is actually 9 even though it was claimed he was 5, already wears a ankle monitor because his father lets him wander off and steal things. As is expected, the father has faced no consequences for this. In Minnesota, a single word is worse than kidnapping and raping a young girl. Two Somalian men abducted a young, vulnerable girl, then were shielded by the government and faced zero consequences. Personally, I think the charges were dropped to avoid their deportation. On the flip side, a productive member of society gets probation, a jail sentence, and 200 hours of community service over a single word, with no violence involved in any way. We can't live like this. We can't live in a country where foreigners are above the law, yet get to twist the law into a weapon against productive American citizens.
