Amid the flood of felicitations following my convocation as Overall Best Graduating Student of LAUTECH, I find it necessary to address the stir around my NELFUND appreciation post. I accept the praise, life changing offers and the backlash, in good faith. Still, it is only fair to set the record straight. I hail from a village in Osun State, raised in a modest family of five. I attended public primary and secondary schools, not by choice, but because even the most inexpensive private schools were beyond our means. Even then, survival itself; food and clothing was a daily struggle. I walked miles to school each morning, while my parents laboured as jacks-of-all-trades to make ends meet. For nine defining years before I entered university, we lived within sight of basic amenities yet beyond our reach, no electricity, no television; just lanterns and candles. Against these odds, I earned a scholarship and now this distinction. In my third year, a coursemate’s father, someone I had once tutored academically, gifted me my first smartphone which I am still using till now. On several occasions, lecturers, moved by quiet compassion, provided me with clothing. There are many other instances, too numerous to recount. So, I say this plainly, not all of us are born with a silver spoon. Some of us climbed the ladder by holding on to every rung of legitimate support we could find. As an engineering student aspiring to make academic history, should I resort myself to blaming my family’s financial situation for my inability to afford fees and essentials like a reliable smartphone or laptop needed for skills and certifications? For me personally, NELFUND was not incidental; it was instrumental and to acknowledge what helped one’s journey is neither propaganda nor misplaced allegiance. It is simply an act of appreciation. Thank you @NELFUND and everyone that contributed to this success! Greatness awaits all of Us.

The relocation of the Nigeria Police Academy from Kano State to Ogun State has only reinforced Tinubu’s 1994 statement: “I don’t believe in one Nigeria.”

There is a reason founding fathers of this country Nigeria kept most of its security headquarters in the North. The answer is simple the north is the only part of Nigeria that have never dreamt of seceding. Tinubu is now gradually balkanizing some of this agencies and moving them away to other part.

In less than 3 years in power. 1. He split the College of Aviation into 2, taking one to Ogun 2. He split the Nigerian Army Depot Zaria, taking part to Osun State. 3. He split the Nigerian Police Academy into 2, taking one to Ogun State. Next could be NDA. Sheikh Nura Usman blasts Tinubu on anti-north agenda.

@Philopearl_Afc I think Arteta should throw in the towel if he doesn't win the league. It shows that he's given his best and his best isn't good enough for a team like arsenal.

🚨🗣️ Ian Wright on Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal against Manchester City, and what it means as the season hit its final sprint: “You know what hurts me watching this Arsenal team right now? It’s not even the result against Manchester City… it’s the feeling that when it really mattered, the personality disappeared. For seven months you’re top of the league, everyone is talking, everything looks controlled… and then suddenly, in the final sprint, you look like a team hoping instead of believing. That’s the difference. People will talk tactics, they’ll talk about the goalkeeper going long, or individuals not stepping up but for me, it’s deeper. When City smell that moment, they become ruthless. Arsenal? They became cautious. And in this league, cautious is not enough. I’ve been there. When you want to win the title, you have to impose yourself even when things go wrong. Today, after it went 1-1, you could feel it… City said ‘we take this now,’ and Arsenal almost accepted it. And that’s why people are asking how did it get to this? Because a month ago, it looked impossible for them to lose it. Now? All the pressure is on them, and City are playing free, with momentum, with experience. Listen, Mikel Arteta has done an unbelievable job, but this is the stage where you don’t just need structure, you need authority. You need players who say ‘give me the ball, I decide this game.’ Right now, I don’t see that enough. And if you don’t show it at this stage of the season… then you open the door for a team like City. And once that door is open, they don’t knock… they walk through it.”

One killed, two injured in ambush on youths in Plateau community By: Zagazola Makama One person has been confirmed dead and two others injured after suspected local criminal elements ambushed three youths along the Kpashio–Ansa road in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the victims, Joseph Ezekiel, 27; Ishaya Michael, 25; and Abednego Sunday, 30, were travelling on a motorcycle to Kpashio village when they came under sudden gunfire at about 2030 hrs on April 18. Troops stationed in the area reportedly heard sporadic gunshots from a distance and immediately moved toward the scene, where they discovered the victims lying by the roadside with gunshot wounds. The injured were swiftly evacuated to the Miango Healthcare Centre for emergency treatment, but Ishaya Michael was later confirmed dead, while the other two victims are receiving medical care. According to security sources, preliminary findings indicate that the attackers also fled with the victims’ motorcycle after the ambush, suggesting a criminal dimension to the incident beyond the immediate attack. Troops thereafter conducted a sweep of the surrounding area in pursuit of the assailants, but no contact was made during the operation. The incident sparked tension in the community the following morning when groups of women from Kpashio and neighbouring settlements staged a protest over the killing. Sources noted that the circumstances surrounding the ambush remain under investigation, describing the incident as complex due to the criminal and communal dynamics of the area. Preliminary assessments suggest that the attackers may have operated as criminal elements within the area, exploiting the prevailing insecurity in the border community, where multiple groups move across difficult terrain. Investigators are also engaging local informants and community leaders to establish the identities and motives of the assailants. “The situation is being carefully examined. At this stage, no conclusion has been reached, and all possibilities are being considered,” a security source said. Authorities stressed that the general security situation in the area remains calm but tense, with troops continuing domination patrols to prevent further attacks. Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue into what has become another tragic episode in the ongoing cycle of violence affecting parts of Plateau State.
