Here’s my interpretation: Trump is not an idiot. He knows Carney is stalling trade talks, for political purposes, and no other reason. Trump is forcing Carney back to the table. He’s giving a glimpse of how ugly it can be, stalling & being difficult instead of negotiating a deal in good faith, instead of stalling in order to try to win a majority. Carney needs to make a choice: Does Canada continue to get decimated so he can selfishly attempt a majority? OR Does he do the right thing & focus on a trade deal? It’s ridiculous it has come to this.

Dear Albertans: It's time someone injected reality into your conversations about secession. Note I'm a former Albertan who lived and worked in Edmonton. On August 20th 1998 the Supreme Court of Canada ruled on terms of secession for every province. Secession affects all Canadians and therefore is NOT a decision that's yours alone to make which is consistent with international law. Secession would require amendments to the constitution. It must be consistent with the Constitution Act of 1980. In other words, to rip up the constitution such that Canada no longer exists, you require the consent of the parliament of Canada AND EVERY PROVINCE. Before even contemplating a referendum campaign, Alberta is required to seek approval from the parliament of Canada on a question! They must approve the question on the basis it is clear enough. You will also require approval for what constitutes sufficient public support assuming 50 plus one is probably NOT enough. Federal politicians will decide that not the Alberta legislature alone. Canada is a country of laws not a nation under Donald Trump. And the law of the land is the federal Clarity Act and the Supreme Court reference. The process of secession would be long and aggravating and likely destroy the Alberta economy forever. Because business and capital, especially of the kind that dominate Alberta as its bread and butter, hates uncertainty. Just ask Quebec which has never recovered from the flight of capital resulting from two referendums. It's your choice. But you should go into it clear eyed.
