You have your choice of any player, in his prime, to fill this DH spot. Who gets the call?

Daryl Morey’s destiny should be working in the NBA league office and making rules to undo all the analytics he helped popularize to make the game more fun to watch again — like Theo Epstein did with MLB. It was like when the casinos hired ex blackjack cheats.

India makes more milk than any country on Earth. Italy has 400 cheeses. India has roughly zero aged ones. Ever wondered why?

Some people took issue with me calling Bailey’s performance at the plate thus far unlucky. It’s an 89 plate appearance sample size, entirely minute. Nothing in the underlying data suggests that he’s any different a hitter than he’s been his entire career. Which is still well below average (70-80 wRC+), but plenty good enough to keep the profile afloat given the otherworldly defensive skills. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to call him the most talented defender of all time.

My thoughts on the move: Patrick Bailey has been such a sure 3-4 WAR player, and while it may not feel like it every day, it will be incredibly difficult for Susac/Rodriguez to cover that mark. A lot of weight on the duo. Bailey's bat is weak, but he's been very unlucky this year. As for the return: In a loaded draft class, SF is in a great spot at #29. A wealth of high school (college too) talent will be available with the added bonus pool $. This draft has the chance to solidify the org as one of the elite farm systems in baseball. Matt Wilkinson is a pretty safe bet. Low slot lefty with strong command has had success at every level. Five ft. release height, -4 VAA from a good horizontal angle. The sweeper and changeup are decent secondaries, of which he possesses a strong feel for. It's a back-end starter, and you hope he can add some velocity. Overall, I'm not in love with the process. Bailey gets severely underrated by fans because his value doesn't appear so obviously, and the ABs can be frustrating. He is undoubtedly a very talented, valuable baseball player and will accumulate plenty of WAR. It's reliant on Susac/Rodriguez immediately stepping up, and the Giants hitting on their guy at #29.

do I think it's a strange move to trade some of the best defense our team has given how poorly we've been hitting? yes.
SFGiants@SFGiants

The #SFGiants and Cleveland Guardians completed a trade, with LHP Matt Wilkinson joining the Giants and San Francisco receiving the Guardians' 29th overall pick in the 2026 draft (Competitive Balance Round A) in exchange for C Patrick Bailey.

Buster Posey's GM tenure is going to single-handedly ruin the phrase "you don't know because you didn't play" for future generations of ex-athletes getting flustered in a sports argument

@GrantPaulsen The real ones don't have to tell tales of how great they were. They have others to sing their songs for them. Aint no songs about Draymond Green.

Today’s generation of players only know Chuck as the funny guy who eats donuts on TNT. They have no idea how good he was. Houston Barkley was a better player than peak Draymond. Chuck not letting him know that was a masterclass in grace and humility.

I don't understand the point of using the term "dozen". It means 12, so just say 12? It's even worse when people say or type "half a dozen". Just say 6 or six.
