Without any formal announcement #SouthAfrica has quietly launched their Electronic Travel Autorisation (ETA) system. They will be rolling it out in phases and have made it currently live for G20 delegates from #China, #India, #Indonesia, and #Mexico. (G20 submit is scheduled for November 22–23, 2025) As of now you can apply for this if you plan to arrive by air through one of the three main international airports: Johannesburg-OR Tambo, Cape Town, or Lanseria. The best part is that 85% of applications could be processed automatically “using AI-powered risk assessment,” with a target processing time of under 24 hours 1. Link to apply: eta.dha.gov.za/login Just need a copy of your passport + click a selfie. No other docs needed + the visa is totally FREE Alert: One of the requirements on the registration page states this visa is only for those planning to attend G20 meetings. Please do your due diligence. 2. Register by adding in the basic details link email + mobile + passport no + post of entry etc. 3. Click activation email 4. Apply for ETA Visa 5. Scan unique QR Code 6. Click selfie on phone 7. Click photo of passport 8. All details of the passport are auto populated. Continue the process on web browser (Don't close the browser from which you scan the QR Code) 9. In form they do allow vacation/holiday and not just G20 so I suppose the visa maybe live for all Indian passport holders but just not officially announced. 10. Add more details which are asked 11. Submit form. TAT shown is 24 hrs. Alert: Any applicant who currently has a pending or approved RSA eVisa or RSA TTO (Trusted Tour Operator) Visa application will not be approved for an ETA. Got mine processed in 20 mins, so the process is actually automated. Some points: - I purposefully applied stating the date of entry as 01.12.2025 but still issued me a visa starting 20.11.2025. Maybe for the G20 Sumit the dates are hard coded or it's given from the date of application, as anyways, the visa is valid for 1 year. - Purpose of visit clearly states vacation same as what I added and not G20 submit or business or official, so I'm positive this would work for all tourists as well. - This is a multiple entry visa valid for 1 year with max days of stay for 90 days + extendable to another 90 days. They have outdone themselves. The website works smooth and is really well designed. If it's kept and officially launched as is even post G20 then it will really change how Indians apply for their South Africa Visa and will be a major boost to their tourism.
