#shakerace Question: who are the nonwhite children in early modern drama? So far I have the changeling child in MSND and Aaron’s baby in Titus Andronicus, but I feel like I am missing a few others #Raceb4race

Early modernists: I need your help thinking about play endings. Not plot resolutions, but literally just closure signals, and the futures to which they point. How many plays can you name that end with variations of (e.g.) “let’s go [somewhere] and tell over these strange events”?

Early mod music people, can you help me understand something? This court record describes a man employing musicians and says he lended “one of [his] garters to tye one of there fidelles.” Why/how would you tie a fiddle and how does the garter come into play? Any thoughts welcome!

"Knight of the Burning Pestle" has long been one of my favourite early modern plays -- I maintain that George and Nell have one of the most wholesome marital relationships in the canon -- & it was a joy to see Red Bull Theatre's fantastic, thoughtful production. (spoilers) 1/

Some personal news: I will join the Penn State School of Theatre this autumn as an Assistant Professor of Theatre Studies. I am looking forward to working with the dynamic students and faculty at PSU, and to advancing disability-centered arts and culture research at a Big 10.

had a teaching week full of absolute gems, like Topdog/Underdog, Passing, and "Education" from the Small Axe series. Shax students start work on their final presentations tomorrow. So stoked! A good week even with some #shax2023 withdrawal.
