The time I gave a speech about the First Amendment through the lens of the Sith Code remains my proudest professional moment. #StarWars

@JHochderffer How do you think statutes are enforced against the federal government? Courts have been ruling that presidents and agencies violate federal law in various contexts for decades. It’s the same thing with treaties.
English

@ethanwb Enforceable, upon ourselves?
Do we tell ourselves to sit in the corner until we decide it's been long enough?
English

@JHochderffer Our treaties are 100% enforceable, as much so as any statute. Hence that supreme law of the land bit.
English

@ethanwb If it is unenforceable, it is a suggestion.

Another entry in the ongoing saga of "capitalism is any bad thing I don't like."

This is literally capitalism.

@tsujack @GigaBasedDad Related, but learning how to throw a baseball is very different from learning about how velocity and inertia operate in a physics class.

@ethanwb @GigaBasedDad Those fall under personal finance and public speaking.

This is absolutely not enough.
Just on the policy piece alone, there are SO many individuals - staff, advisors, consultants, cabinet secretaries, spouses, and more - that can trade on insider information.
This is just a fig leaf to deflect from criticism. We need to do more.

The number of people I encounter who can’t explain their (generally “good”) jobs and/or what their spouses do is staggering. I’d love to see people try to describe what they actually do for a living in a single 280 character tweet in a way that the average person can understand.

Unless I missed something, it really felt like Project Hail Mary could have been rated PG.
Baseball Aslan@BaseballAslan
@IMAO_ I was surprised that it’s PG-13, considering that there is no language or really anything objectionable

@DeTahmineh I think I'm the only human being who uses Amazon Music. I like bundling my various services.

@latterdaylaura Kids should see that you have your own life, and they should enjoy the independence of being left to themselves here and there. Plus you’ll wear yourself out otherwise; there’s a real danger of resentment and exhaustion.
English

My super strong parenting opinion is that while the kids are awake, you come last.
No spending all of Saturday golfing. That’s family time. 6 am tee time only, maybe.
Wanna go to the gym? Go after the kids go to bed, or wake up at 5.
In a few short years, they’ll be out of the house and you’ll have all the time in the world for your own stuff. It’s okay to come last for a while.

@MamaCAllen I've written three books, and I have another three mostly written. I've written a middle-grade fantasy, an epic fantasy, and more off-beat fantasy/mystery. I've had two different agents, no success. I'm fed up at this point and am going indie.🤞

@ethanwb I think I would die if I had insomnia. I'm reading a book called Why We Sleep that's already changed my perspective on sleep in significant ways. It might be worth having a sleep study done to see what's going on.
What kind of book are you working on? Are you self publishing?

When I was a young mom, constantly nursing or rocking babies to sleep, I would start Facebook discussion posts for something to do while I was immobile for those hours. A good kid of silly and serious things, but always a great way to connect with my friends.
The most meaningful one to me, and to many others, was the struggle bus posts. We would all share something we were currently struggling with, and everyone else would empathize, offer love and support, and give advice if requested.
So friends, what are you struggling with right now? Let's lift each other up in love and support.
I'll share mine in the comments.
English

@MamaCAllen My wife is going back to school too, alongside a busy calling and demanding family needs. I don’t know how you guys do it!
English

I actually have two things I'm struggling with right now.
1-Balancing being back in school with running the house, adequately serving in my callings, being involved with the kids' things, making time for hubs...etc, and feeling like I'm doing too many things.
2-My diet. I want to go carnivore so badly, but I STRUGGLE with sugar. I'm currently the heaviest I've ever been (including pregnancies), and though I don't feel severely overweight, I know I have a lot of work to do, and I'm trying really hard to keep my self worth separate from my frustration with my body.
