An utterly ridiculous take. St Mirren have been utterly shafted by the officials and VAR this season, and their fans have rightly been pissed off about it. I find it staggering that they then see a decision like this and cannot simply say "yup, another reason why our officials aren't fit for purpose, the most basic rule of football is that you can't use your hands and they can't even get that correct". Incredible

Respectfully as a commentator of 40 years I must disagree here. A tragedy or disaster is Hillsboro or Bradford or Heysel, not a defender making a mess of a clearance. It’s a basic tenet of commentary that we don’t cheapen actual catastrophes by likening them to errors in sport.

Commentators, Punters, Journalists should use their full lexicon where possible. It's the context that's important. "That's a disaster for the defender." is absolutely fine as it's within the context of the match. I like to think the vast majority of people can understand that.
