@evenbetterif Hello, I know this was posted ages ago but would you happen to have a copy of this, please? It looks really helpful.

Why is forgetting such an important part of learning? Robert Bjork explains something that every teacher should know.

@DavidDidau Yes, take the structure question for example. You need to have read a significant amount of texts and have a solid schema of different structures in text types. The exam favours readers and English teachers cannot cover this in the curriculum.

It’s a huge problem with GCSE English Language. Because the course has literally *no content* the only predictable thing about it is the structure of the exam. So that has *become* the curriculum

Exactly this @MsJasmineMN Reading is reported as ‘reading ability’ using RA and actual age and then using Class Charts to share the information that goes directly onto the seating plans.

For every school I visited, I would always start with an honest reflection of what they feel they do to support reading. Always amazing to see how much IS done and how much more CAN be done with limited impact on workload/resources too 🔑📚

Direct or explicit instruction seems to be widely misunderstood. It's often characterised as boring lectures with little interaction and not catering to the needs of all students. Nothing could be further from the truth. A short thread 🧵⬇️

@evenbetterif I am also looking for this rare beast. I dislike Oxford play scripts. We dropped ‘Noughts and Crosses’ because it just didn’t work. (No time to write a new scheme). @DrMBoyd teaches ‘The Empress’ which sounds excellent.

@Ricci70409916 Thanks! Can I ask which year group you did this with? I’ve read the book but not the play version.

Brilliant! And a bonus thread of equally bonkers adverts from back in the day.
