What a great issue of STARLOG — #61 from the summer of 1982, with features on “STAR TREK II,” “BLADE RUNNER,” “JOHN CARPENTER’S THE THING,” “MEGAFORCE” and even a sneak preview of “REVENGE OF THE JEDI!” 1982 really was THE GREATEST GEEK YEAR EVER, and I miss STARLOG!

Now THIS is the first #StarWars trailer I remember seeing in the theaters. It teased a darker vibe that I was totally into even as a young kid.

This STAR WARS teaser trailer was screened before ‘King Kong’ in December of 1976. The special effects weren’t finished, the music is NOT John Williams, and all in all it gives off a very different much darker vibe. Interesting.

When I was growing up, STARLOG MAGAZINE was where I got all my sci-fi, fantasy & horror movie and TV news and interviews! I absolutely could not wait to get it every month, and I still have all my early issues — Those were good times! Any other STARLOG fans out there?

Starlog magazine was created by Kerry O’Quinn and Norman Jacobs in 1976 with an early focus on Star Trek and Space 1999 until of course Star Wars came along the following year. It was published until 2009.

My ★★★½ review of Cleopatra on @letterboxd: boxd.it/e2XxEV The only real critique I have is that this film is long, like Avatar long. Burton & Taylor are top notch, and the production itself is jaw dropping. Expensive to make, but every penny is on screen.

My ★★★½ review of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof on @letterboxd: boxd.it/dW2XLZ Tennessee Williams did not like the changes, but whatever changes they made in this adaptation worked for me. Paul Newman and Liz Taylor were especially good and I liked the way the story resolved.
