@RealiaAmelia Unless it's a far future story I just can't buy the idea of a society completely devoid of heteronormativity. Not having outright homophobia is one thing, not perceiving anything at all distinct or distinguishing about being a gay person is another.

the problem with “medieval fantasy where everyone is woke” is not actually that it is woke but that it’s an obvious indicator that the story is meant to be escapism. fiction as a comfortable space into which one retreats from the real world. it’s a terrible way to engage with art

I thought the correct take is that it is symbiotic parasitism between Paul and the Fremen. Anyway ultimately the core point in Dune is that you shouldn't let others do your thinking for you, whether it be machine, religion or society. Beware the charismatic hero leader.

@reaIcatboy @VgikyBrewer @maxtmcc well technically no, because reptiles is a term for contemporary animals, pre-cenozoic dinosaurs were something in between reptiles and birds (at least from my understanding, please correct me if I’m wrong)
