Even though we got the right winners in the end, that was a pretty depressing World Cup Final. Between the Half-Time Show taking 27 minutes, hydration breaks, clear yellow cards not being called, time wasting encouraged, one team refusing to play football, the two benches appealing every decision, Infantino / Trump double act, only 4 mins added at end of normal time, Argentina’s reaction at full-time whistle. It’s been an enjoyable tournament but tonight was a huge let down on the biggest stage of all. Football has plenty of things to fix.

@sarhsheg They can complain all they want. They were outplayed for 90 minutes by the better team on the day, and expected a soft free kick to bail them out from the second goal 🤷‍♂️

@evinh111 It doesn’t matter if it’s soft, she pushed the defender and impeded her ability to compete for the header, it’s still a foul. I had no skin in the game, and don’t support either, but i can understand why Galway were incensed with the officiating there.

Galway players and fans lost their minds over this goal, but as bizarre as it looked, I think it's actually the right decision. Watkins was offside and close to Pearl, but Pearl was inside and Watkins actually doesn't make an attempt at the ball and even gets out the way

@sarhsheg Extremely soft. If you're giving that, then you're giving penalties at every set pieces. Maybe Amanda McQuillan should have tried to save the header

@evinh111 I’m not talking about the offside, albeit Watkins was, and how involved she was with play is a grey area. I’m talking about the foul Slattery commits on the Galway defender.

@sarhsheg Considering you say you watched the game on TV, then you must have just ignored the replay from behind the goal. That made it abundantly clear that the offside call was correct.

@sarhsheg No she doesn't. Pearl Slattery has a hand in the defenders back, it's very clear from the footage. I'd repost it, but TG4 have blocked screenshots of the game footage. There's an extremely clear angle from behind the goal which shows the decision was correct. See the armband

@Lzerislive No she doesn't. That's Pearl who blocks the defender off. Watkins' arms are by her side as she's backing away from both Pearl and the defender. TG4 showed an angle from beside the goal, and it's really clear that Watkins did not attempt to play the ball or interfere.

@condo270 @LetsTalkLOIW It's not an offence to be in an offside position. It *is* an offence to attempt to play the ball or interfere with an opponent when in an offside position. Watkins was there, but didn't attempt to play the ball, and didn't interfere.

@macdarabueller Subbed off after 24 minutes it seems. Meanwhile Finn Moylan who played the whole cup tie against Kerry last night started for Shels, and has conceded to Eric Koufie, whose loan with Kerry expired just three weeks ago.

Last night's second round FAI Cup tie was a repeat of November's final between Shamrock Rovers and Cork City. Danny Mandroiu picked up a serious knee injury in that game in the Aviva. He is back in action today playing with the Hoops under-20 side.

Given you have an 18 year old keeper who’s just conceded a soft goal a couple minutes before, does the ball have to go back to him here? This is where players have to take responsibility, give the lad a bit of a break and stop passing backwards putting him under pressure

@OCowzer Shouldn't be excusing performances, because the 11 on the pitch should absolutely be beating Kerry. But at the same time, it's one thing to say that early in the season. As the season has gone on, the injury crisis has only gotten worse! Only like 12 fit senior players now?

As awful as last night was (and it WAS awful), I feel like there's been absolutely no mention in that media at any stage this season that Shels have had a Spurs 25/26 level injury crisis all year long. Currently missing 1/2/3rd choice keepers, 3/4 strikers, 2/3 CMs...

@seidodge He, along with half our senior players, is injured. Some of the lads who know more about the academy setup said that our next fit keeper after Moylan is 15 years old

Shels fans, what’s the story with Speel? I know Walsh got injured recently so is young Moylan the only fit keeper? Presume they’ll look to bring in an experienced keeper if Speel is out
