@newyorkgrooovee Hope the NCAA gets crushed by class action lawsuits. I hear St. Johns can afford a lot of really good attorneys.

So the NCAA is going to tell St. John’s at the 12th hour AFTER the portal ends that 4 players (2 starters) on the roster are ineligible after finalizing substantial NIL deals & after giving international prospects eligibility for all of last season? Terrible governing.
Kevin Sweeney@CBB_Central

The timing of the guidance and changes right after schools made, in some cases, multimillion dollar investments in top overseas prospects. Schools made those commitments after similar players from top leagues had been granted eligibility in recent years: si.com/college-basket…

@GarthGlissman If they gave a crap about 'getting it right' instead of protecting US Universities with all the $$$, they'd have taken a long time to plan this out before announcing it, & given people the chance to provide input. But they dropped this garbage right before the school year.

I have great respect for Jonathan’s work dating back to my time at the NBA, but I respectfully disagree with his characterization of the NCAA’s approach to international players. The NCAA does not seek to exclude all international players. Rather, the NCAA seeks to implement common sense limits on whether, and the extent to which, international players who have played multiple seasons of high level pro basketball overseas have remaining NCAA eligibility. Getting this issue right is essential to preserve fairness and opportunities at predominantly taxpayer-funded American colleges for American kids who typically graduate from HS at age 18 and, as a practical matter, must immediately enroll in college if they want to continue playing high-level basketball.
Jonathan Givony@DraftExpress

The NCAA's new (very poorly timed) rule sends a clear message: international players are no longer welcome in the college game. ACB, France, Italy, Australian NBL and anyone who's ever played for a EuroLeague team, even for next to nothing, are suddenly permanently ineligible?

@DraftExpress Hope every college losing 1 or more players for this year over this sues the NCAA.

If this new rule is enforced as written, at least half of college basketball's preseason top 25 teams just lost one or more starters. Dropping it in May, with no replacement options available, makes very little sense.

The NCAA essentially wants to go back to having NO international pros in CBB. All they need to do is set a strict age cap & make staying in the draft sacrifice your college eligibility. The timing is awful post recruiting cycle first off but revoking eligibility for ALL overseas pros across the board is dumb. Sounds nice but the kids that are 18-20 are college age underclassmen - they should be allowed to play CBB coming from overseas. Sure - the 23+ year old players coming over for the first time need fixing. AND any international guys who go through draft process and don’t withdraw by the deadline should immediately be ineligible just like Bediako & RJ Luis here. It’s just wild after letting EVERYONE come play CBB to now flip mid offseason & say now no one can come play. We’ll see how this goes…
Kevin Sweeney@CBB_Central

New guidance issued by the NCAA to schools earlier this month opens the door for a crackdown on the tidal wave of international pros hoping to head to college basketball. Players from top leagues could face added scrutiny. Statement from NCAA enclosed: si.com/college-basket…

@ryanhammer09 If they're going to do this then they need to being back the requirement of ALL students being in college for 4 years before being eligible for the NBA. It's the only way ALL D1 schools will have a shot at getting players that give them the chance to win the NCAA Tournament.

@DraftExpress @slipperstillfit This is just another way for the NCAA to show favoritism to the colleges with the most money. They can't handle anyone competing w/ them on a level playing field so in addition to having more NIL money and better US students than anyone else, they're taking away Intl students.

@AndyPattonCBB @evotavausa Feels like Zags need to target a versatile guard like Kayil. The next player must be able to take pressure off Mario and be a secondary ball handler.

@evotavausa yes, but Gonzaga is not going to wait and hope he comes back, not now that he's made this announcement public. Still could change his mind, but Zags might spend his $

Surprising one & a BIG hit for Gonzaga. Jack Kayil & Mario Saint Supery backcourt was going to be an amazing backcourt duo. Isiah Harwell going to be leaned on even more as of now - Zags might go add another guard elsewhere
Jonathan Givony@DraftExpress

NEWS: Gonzaga-commit Jack Kayil is staying in the 2026 NBA Draft, agents Kevin Bradbury and Milan Nikolic tell DraftExpress. The 6'5, 20-year-old point guard is receiving first-round feedback off an outstanding season in Germany with Alba Berlin. Tough break for Mark Few.
